Questions about crested geckos

I've been thinking about getting a crested gecko. I've been researching them online...and they seem pretty simple to care for

Just want to clarify a few things

1. They dont need any sort of heat source...they like room temp. Not even a heat lamp?

2. They can be fed the powder mix with occasional crickets

3. They need higher humidity. What is a good percent? I've seen lots of different stats online

How are they with handling? Are they more of a "look but dont mess with me" type lizard?

Thanks in advance :)

I haven't had to use any heat here. My house temps are usually 70-75. I'm not sure on the percent for humidity. I spray twice a day and three times if it's really dry at that time. If you start to notice a lot of stuck shed or that they can't climb well, then you most likely need more humidity. I keep humidifiers in both room with my geckos. I use them a lot when I have the heat or a/c on. Cresteds eat crested gecko diet everyday. I feed mine roaches twice a week also. Crickets are fine, too.

Mine do okay with handling. They do like to jump a lot. The more I handle them, the more they settle down. We never keep ours out more than 10 minutes at a time. I have also noticed that mine have gotten calmer with age, but they still run off or jump often.

I hope that helps a little.:) I've only been keeping crested geckos for just over a year, so I know there are others here with a lot more expirience to answer your questions.

I have one crested gecko. I feed it powder mix 3 times weekly and crickets twice weekly. They can be handled. Some like handling more than others and they do calm down with more frequent handling, but they are jumpy, so handling them is an adventure. I deal with the heat, and humidity together by keeping them in a planted tank. The coco fiber soil and plants help hold on to the humidity. The light that I use for the plants provides some heat, though this winter I had 2 compact florescents which don't really heat much. I mist every morning. I actually have more trouble with heat in the summer than warmth in the winter. I don't have air conditioning, so when the temp in my living room gets up past the mid-80's, Spencer goes to his "basement condo" --a 10 gallon tank in the basement with a fake plant and a water bowl.

Cresties are great geckos to keep. They are way easier to keep than leos and they have less expense associated with their upkeep. They are also addictively cute and personable. My only regret with them is I wish I would have started collecting them sooner..... ;)

They can be handled regularly once they get used to you.

They can thrive on just CGD alone. Less cost than Crix or other feeder's. Feed Crix once a week just to change up their diet.

I keep them in Kritter Keeper's which are cheap. No heat is needed as long as your room temps are between 70-80F.

Mist their cage with a spray bottle 2 times per day to create humidity.

Hope this helps :)
