HI,
1.Somone mentioned buying the next size down for UTH that is required. to help with the out-put of heat? I am getting a Rheostat aswell, so do i really need to get a size smaller heating pad????

2.Also, where the hot side is, do you put extra layers of substrate (paper towel) to obsorb the heat better??? Or is the normal 2 layers OK?

3.For the digi thermometer, i know i have to put the probe sensor on the hot side. Do i put it on the top layer of the paper towel, or in-between the 2 layers for the most accurate reading?

1. nope, not if you're going to regulate the heat. Though the smaller pads are cheaper.
2. the normal two layers is fine
3. on top of the paper towels..this is where your gecko will be laying, so it makes the most sense to know the temp here

If you are getting a rheostat, then there is no need to get a different heat pad. Because your heat source will be controlled by the rheostat, there is also no need to add extra layers of paper towel. I would secure the thermometer probe to the tank bottom, having to move it every time you clean will be a pain. Two layers of paper towel shouldn't impact the temperature much, so your reading should be reasonably accurate.
