Quick question about shedding

Is ok to pick up my gecko oafter he shed? My dad said im not supposed to hold until 2-3 days after he shed, because his skin is raw, is this true?

i've never noticed a leopard gecko having any issues with being handled after a shed. i've had them eat a roach i offered on tweezers right in the middle of shedding its skin, so it seems like a non-issue.
