I'm most definently getting a snake as soon as I possibly can. I was looking at a Brazilian Rainbow boa. I was wondering what their temperments are like, are they a good first snake, and are they easily handeled.

They are fantastic snakes. I have never owned one. But, I have worked with them for years upon years. Babies are notoriously bitey. But with a small amount of handling they get out of that habit very quickly. They get fairly large. On average they are around 5-6 ft as adults but will never eat much more than a 1/2 grown rat. The biggest one I have ever seen is just a little bit over 8 ft. They do have a fairly high humidity requirement. So.. giving them a mossbox is ALWAYS a good idea or you could always set them up on a humid substrate. They ideally would want a basking of 90 and a cool of 75-80. As always.. be careful of having to cold of an air temeperature on top of that. :D

Let me know if you have any other questions.

How bad are the bites if they bite you? I've been bitten by quite a few wild snakes in my area and those bites weren't too bad. Also what are any other tank requirements? The info on the net is so varied.

If your looking for BRBs, Jeff clark is the man. He produces awesome BRBs and they are freindly. Got mine from him, he said it was tame and he wasnt joking lol. You can find his BRBs for sale on kingsnake.com classifieds.

Their bites are not bad at all. They generally do not hold on, they just bite and release. I would suggest a 10-15 gallon tank for a baby. Once they outgrow that I would recommend going up to a larger tank such as a 3' x 2' or 4' x 2' and you should be perfectly fine.

I need to convince my mom into letting me keep one in the house. If not I'll just wait till I move out. I found out the college I'm most likely going to allows animals kept in tanks and cages in their apartments and it's not in NJ so none of our crappy reptile regulations either. I'm probably going to to crazy once I get out of the house.

I really wanna get a green tree python but I'm going to get a lot of experience with other snakes first. Another quick question, I've read some thing about tanks and the humidity saying you can't use a normal tank because it doesn't get the right amount of humidity. There was a bunch of other stuff on that site that was a load of bull so I'm wondering if that's true.

With a standard glass cage with a complete screen lid. You do loose a bunch of humidity.. and even heat that way.. But if you provide a moss box in addition and put it on the hot side.. You should be a ok.

For BRBs, especially babies I highly reccomend rubbermaid containers. They need hummidity of 90-100%. I use a rubbermaid for mine and it really holds the hummidity well.

Rubbermaids are great for any snake that needs humidity. GTPs, Balls, Tree Boas,BCI,RB's. They are also alot cheaper then your normal glass aquarium. Good luck if you do get a BRB.
