We are building a rack system ourselves and are using plywood. Then it accord to me, What is the possibility of the wood catching on fire from the heat tape? I see that most of you use the black ones. Are those plastic or wood? And we are also painting them a real dark greyish color. Will the paint make it more flammable? Just a concern that I would like to know before we continue. Thanks so much for the help in advance!:)

Will not happen. The heat tape sits in the 90s...your body temperature is usually greater than the temperature of the heat tape. Do you go around touching things and catching them on fire? lol

What are you talking about black ones? What would you be painting?

The black ones are the ones that you order off line. That you just put together. And we are painting the whole thing(rack system). The wood that it is made of. The heat tape is taped to the wood in the back with the flexfit tape. Just curious if that could cause any issues. Probably not, but im just being cautious i guess.lol.

Shouldn't be a problem at all! I thought for second you meant that you were painting the HEAT TAPE! You should be just fine :) I put a sealant on my home made rack.

The racks ordered online are usually made of a plastic composite material. So long as you wire the flexwatt correctly, the wood rack will be just fine. ;)

I honestly cannot remember the exact name of the sealant. I got it at Home Depot, and I BELIEVE the brand was McCormick??? Don't quote me! It's a smaller can of sealant. It's baby/kid safe stuff.

ponylover- when you are done - or now- can you please post in detail how you are building it- i have the ones off line and they are too small.

yup sure can. My husband is building it for me. I am only helping him put the heat tape, flexfix tape and everything else together. But I can have him tell me in detail how he did it asap and let you know for sure.I dont know what size tubs you use but I am using 16qt and 32 qts tubs. i will post as soon as i can.
