Considering breeding season is coming soon and lots of you have some females that have already layed, I do want to get things started myself. I have a rack that can hold 30 6qt tubs but I have a few females that I would like to breed and would worry less with extra room! :main_rolleyes:
My question is what kind of racks do you buy? I know AP racks are pretty nice and that was what I was considering but wanted everyone else's opinions.
Also I have the opportunity to get a used rack locally. Would this be wise or best to stick with brand new?

I would go with the AP economy racks, the prices are amazing and it is very professionally built. I wouldn't buy a used rack because you don't know how old that rack or how old the heat tape really is. If you are going to go with homeade just make it yourself. Trust me, you will feel awesome in the end!

Agreed. And, a little known secret, they can make the EP racks for the Iris 330 tubs! Just specify that you want Iris instead of Sterilite, the price stays the same. I'm about to order a rack or two myself...

And if you're worried about the open sides and back, simply go to Home Depot, buy some heavy black plastic (in the painting department), and tape it around the rack. The weight savings and the money savings are just too good for me to buy the full racks going forward. The only thing they don't offer are separators between the tubs like Boaphile does, but I don't really think that's a big deal.

Iris tubs are more "cubular", meaning they are less tapered which equals more floor space. They are also completely smooth inside, so no grooves for things to get stuck in. Also a bit shorter, which means you can effectively have more shelves in the same amount of space depending on what you order. They are more expensive than Sterilite, but I like the floor space and cleanability. You can order them from the Container Store in case lots, too. And, they don't constantly change their model numbers. I think that covers it.

I have both the AP economy rack and a Boaphile RhinoRaxx. Both are good. Personally my next rack with be another AP economy. I like the open sides. :)

I am a huge fan of AP racks. I would only suggest economy racks if the ambient temps are relatively stable and dont get too cool. Other than that I say go with AP

Yes temps are stable so I dont think I should have a problem. Thanks everyone! Marcia your reptile room looks amazing! Very clean and organized I must say! I think I will go with the AP economy racks since that sounds like the best thing.
