I'm really happy to say I'll be getting my first leopard gecko either later this month or sometime next month! I have $70 at the moment but I'm saving up about $150 to get the leo and supplies. I'm going to try to go to a reptile show to get everything I will need. (I'm such a broke senior xD) I've been doing research on them for about 2 years now and now, I finally get to have one of my own :) . There's a chance I might not be able to go to the reptile show so if I do have to get a petstore leo, I'm taking it to the vet to get a fecal check and regular check up.

Congrats! It will probably the first of many. I would suggest that if you don't goto the reptile expo then find a local breeder or one on the internet. You will generally get a gecko that is healthier and higher quality for the money. Just do a bit of research and go from there.

Also, try to adopt a gecko from a bad home before buying at a show IMO

I disagree with this. New gecko owners with a less than healthy animal often leads to disappointment. Free or even cheap often equals a hefty vet bill and a lot of frustration trying to rehabilitate an animal with no experience. Sometimes a person might luck out an get a healthy one that way, but the odds are not good.

I thought about what I had said after I posted and it was along the lines of what your saying . It's just disappointing and sad to see all the reptiles people post on craiglist because they simply got tired or bored with them. It takes a special person to adopt an exotic animal and hope for the best .
