Red Feces?

I noticed one of my new geckos has red feces in it's cage.Any ideas? It doesn't look like blood.More like sand or something(which I don't think it is since I got it from a reputable breeder that uses paper towels).Anyone know what this might be?Some of the poop is regular, and some is red like this...it's really quite strange.

Can leos suffer from colitis? I know it is usually brought on by stress in mammals but I'm not sure if it affects herps. It is indicated by bloody streaks in the stool.

Is there any way you can get a pic of it?

I really don't think it's blood.It's the entire feces,not streaks...I'll go take some pictures right now.They should be up in 15 minutes.Thanks!

Here is a picture of the red feces(right) next to the normal feces(left). The camera made the normal feces a little more red than it really is.It looks like perfectly normal fecal matter. The gecko acts very happy. She is nice and chubby, she's eating, and drinking water. No signs of anything wrong other than her poop...

It looks like bloody mucus that has dried over poo to me cause you can see normal-ish brown poo underneath it. what color is on the inside of it if it's broken open?

I have no clue what she was eating.Like I said,I got her from a very reputable dealer,so I don't think it would be the result of bad husbandry.I sent the breeder a PM,so we'll see what they say.I hope she is okay, because she is really sweet girl. And I just got her VERY recently.

It's the same color all the way through. It breaks apart into a bunch of tiny chunks.

I hope she'll be alright, but I do think it's bloody poo. Maybe she came down with a parasite. But if it's bloody poo you have to get her to the vet asap.

Good luck, best wishes :)

I really don't wanna deal with parasites in my collection,so I will most likely be asking the breeder for a return. We'll see how it all goes...luckily,I had her in quarintine.Just goes to show that quarantining is a MUST.

If she's otherwise healthy, it's not a big deal to get a fecal sample checked and possibly treat for parasites. I would communicate with the breeder and see what the options are ASAP so a sound decision can be made. You are correct in saying quarantine is a must! I'll go a step further to add, it doesn't matter who the reptile comes from, quarantine is necessary.

If you decide to keep her it's only $25 for a fecal sample...and some other vets include it on the base price of the check up (which is $60-$63). At my vets.

Looks like she's shitting bricks, lol.

I'm sorry, I know this is no time to be funny, but I couldn't resist.

Does this poop look normal to the breeder? Maybe it is something he or she is feeding them? Maybe the food that the breeder fed the feeders was red? Like if he/ she used a certain fish food?

He said he feeds carrots to his carrots to the bugs he feeds.I could that happening. What do you guys think. The only reason Im not really Frieking out is because she acts and looks do healthy.Healthier than a lot of geckos Ive purchased in the past.I think Im gonna give the breeder the benefit of the doubt. She is so healthy,I don't see how anything could be wrong.I'll watch her for a while and see if it continues much longer.I have been feeding her mealworms with D3(in the same dish),so it is quite possible that the red poop is older, and the regular poop is what she has started pooping out since her diet was switched. We shall see.I trust the breeder 100%.We talked for quite a long time before I purchased this gecko(months),and I just can't see him selling animals with parasites. So I'll just monitor her and see what happens. Thanks to all that helped, and opinions are still welcome as to what you think this could be.

Were they feeding roaches? It looks like digested roaches to me, and they don't seem to break down as much as worms or crickets so I think it is feasible that you're seeing roach and whatever the roach was eating/supplements coming out.
