reporting a company

I am in sourtern Ontario and I was wondering how I would go about reporting a pet store that is mistreating their animals. ( over crowded tanks ex; 20 baby leopard geckos in a 5 gallon cage, keeping an adult chameleon in a 18"x12"x18" cage, not providing clean cages, not providing proper amounts of food and clean water. )I know for a fact that he produces over 1000 leopard geckos per year.

Any tips would be appreciated

That does not sound good. I dont really know where to report something like that, I gues you could try giving a call to your parliament member and ask, or email the city and ask. Out of curiosity where in Ontario are you? Im in Toronto.

I would try the SPCA. I live in a city that's lucky enough to have agents available that actually go to places suspected of mistreating animals and can actually make arrests or issue warrants. I'm not sure if they would have something like that in your city, but perhaps you could try?

I really wish someone in power would care enough about reptiles and other small animals to lobby for their rights. Afterall they don't even really need much; warm spot, water, food, clean cages and maybe some humidity if they require it. Why is that so hard for people?

Ok so I have found the SPCA website for Ontario http://www.ontariospca.ca/
So the next time I can go there I am going to get some photos and send them in a message to the SPCA, for now I am going to send them a e-mail with the details.

Is there anything that you guys think I should add to the e-mail?

Woud you mind describing the conditions of the pet store? It doesnt sound good, but i doubt you can report someone for the few things you mentioned.

Some of the things I would describe is the overall appearance of the animals in question. Is the animals tails sunken in instead of being plump? Is there any injuries or deformities? Is water even being provided? Really take a trip and make mental notes of all that can be seen by you that is wrong. Hope this helps you out on reporting them.

The pet store is a 3500 sq foot mess, there are feeder insects running around on the floor every where, there are boxes every where in piles around the store that were soggy when I was there I don`t know if they will be there when I go to take pics.

the animals are tiny probably about 10% of them don`t have a tail (leos) there are alot of injuries to the animals.

That sounds just horrible. Good for you for wanting to take up the cause of reporting them. Try to get some pics but of course be careful. You don't want the manager or some employee trying to get you out of the store before you get all the pics you need. A cell phone camera would probably be best. It really burns me up the way some people just don't give a damn.

Try the Better Businesses Beauraux, they even take annoyonmous tips and send people to investigate... chances are the place will be shut down... you will have to do a bit of research on how to get in touch with them though... but they do exist... im not at home so i cant ask my friend how to reach them.... if your still having no luck ill try and get the info next week once im back in ontario

That's ridiculous! I really hope you can get a hold of someone that can seriously help the animals out. I hate people that try to "own a pet store" yet have no problem letting all the animals suffer. Seriously. Why do it? If I could own 500 different animals, I most certainly would, but only if I knew I could care for each and every one of them.

I really hope that something is done about the problem at that shop. Keep us updated please!

I don`t think that would work so well as I used to do volenter work for them before they went bad as they used to be a really good pet shop. I will defenently show you guys some photos of the place the next time I get a chance to go down there.
