Allrightythan!
It's time to clean Slinky's terrrarium (home sweet home).
I have this ZooMed Turtle Turf on the recommendation from someone
on this very forum (you know who you are, dont hide!! :D).

Ok, the last time I used this stuff (several years ago) my leos stuck to it,
with their toes and teeth (when lunging for crickets) and I had to remove it.

Now, folks are saying their leos do not get stuck to. I'm confused (again!!).

So, you all tell me, YES or NO and no buts and maybe's!! ;)

I use reptile carpet on all of my juvinelle and adult geckos. It looks nice and it is easy to clean. I haven't used it on babies though.

I wouldn't say that they kill themselves on it :main_laugh: but both of my girls do get stuck on the repti-carpet. I still use it in one of my tanks, but I cringe everytime she catches her teeth on the fibers. She doesn't do it often but on those occassions were she lunges a bit too hard.... ouch

I've also noticed that it really keeps their nails like little razors, talk about painful when they try to climb up your arm haha. I use tile in my other tank and have trouble with the exact opposite problem... it seems to wear their nails down too much. Once I get some spare time, I'll be doing half'n'half in each tank. Just a thought.:D

Mine used to get stuck alot also, but he decided not to bite so hard when attacking crickets, so not as often now...they do get stuck sometimes, but it wont kill them :main_laugh:

That's a great idea, change the floor texture a bit.
That's what you do with birds, give them a veriety of sizes for their perches
including some w/ sandpaper for their nails :)

My second level is grey repti-carpet -- It isn't the feeding area so I've never had a problem with her getting caught on it. She does like trying to peel it up off the wooden frame though :)

I've used carpet its fine for the gecko but I personally don't like it. After you wash it a few times it gets dingy looking. And you have to catch the poop on time because you'll have to rub it out to get out. When it was new I saw my leos nails get stuck on it but after awhile it didn't bother. i also used paper towels but thats not pretty. I've always wanted to try tile.

I know I went off topic, Lol

My personal preference is to use reptile carpet under the tile. My leos also used to get their teeth stuck when lunging for crickets, and then shake themselves loose. I was always afraid they'd break something (although they never did). In my setup, the carpet just protects the glass when I remove and replace tiles for cleaning. It also isolates debris that slips between the tiles.

Thank you everybody for your opinions :main_yes:

I know you guys are probably thinking; "why doesnt this Nats guy just try some carpet and find out for himself"?

I guess I dont really have a good answer for that.

I do have a lame answer though;

I would hate to spend the time putting this stuff in there only to find out that I cant use it, and have to take it back out.

I missed the deadline for the poll, but I have used repticarpet with no problems at all. However, I do not feed crickets so my little ones only eat out of dishes and aren't at risk to 'velcroing their little mouths to the floor' while lunging for food items.......

Yeah, thats a good point. I should have put that in the poll.
I wonder how many of the folks who say they like the carpet feed their leos out of bowls.

I wolud say no. I used it for a few years a while ago it never seems to get clean enough for me. I used to put down papper towles where they used to relieve them selfves that helped. I now use all paper towles cleaner eaiser.

I've been keeping my oldest one (4 years) on carpet since he was hatched... I've never seen a problem... :)
