Reptile Expos (particulary the ones in the Midwest)

I live in the greater Kansas City area (Missouri side), and the only Expo listed is coming up with in the week. It's only $6 a person, but that still adds up quick ($24 for my household). So before entertaining the idea of going to such a thing I would like to know if it is worth it.

I don't have much nice to say about the main pet store supporting it, but if anyone would be willing to take a look at the list of venders and tell me what you thing I'd be more than grateful for the feedback.

KC Vendor List | Cold Blooded Expos

Thanks

I wish I could help, but being an east coaster, I'm not familiar with the vendors local to you. I believe I've done some selling/trading with frilled1 and found him to be a really excellent contact. I would recommend googling some of these names. That will likely lead you to their websites and/or facebook pages. Then you can get a better look at what they have.

I got all my geckos from frilled1 (except the tangerine), and they're all beautiful & he's wonderful to work with. He gladly answered questions via text, even a month after I purchased them from him.

Aliza,

Are there any reptile shows in New England worth going to? I see that there are two coming up in October:

New England Reptile Expo
Manchester, NH
Oct 6

Massachusetts Reptile Expo
Brockton, MA
Oct 27

Thanks for any feedback.

The Manchester show is really big and is the New England equivalent of the White Plains show in NY. The Mass reptile expo is smaller (though it's grown tremendously since it first started). If you can only go to one, go to the one in New Hampshire. I will be vending at both with a huge number of geckos. Matt (SelectGex) will be vending with me and he's largely selling out of geckos because he has to move. He's going to have a lot of tanks and enclosures as well as a bunch of interesting gecko species.

Thanks for the information! I may try to get to the Manchester NH show. If I do, I'll be sure to stop by your booth and introduce myself. It looks like lots of vendors will be exhibiting.

On a side note, is there an official updated list of upcoming reptile shows somewhere in the gecko forums? I'm sure lots of people would find it useful.

Thanks guys. I think I'll go check it out just for the experience. I have everything I need for my habitat so I'm good if I come home with a new roommate (or two). The other thing is that this is National Pet Adoption week, so the 'Big Box' stores are running sales and it is hard to resist the $19.99 price for a Leo.

I know what you mean about the cheap price. Sometimes big box pet store leos work out (my oldest leo is a Tremper I got from one of those stores nearly 10 years ago). On the other hand, sometimes that wonderful low price masks the vet bills you may end of paying when the gecko has to be dewormed or otherwise treated. I find that the show is much more fun anyway. Enjoy!

Went to the show and walked out with three tangerines(and a T-shirt). Two female and a male. Ended up getting them from The Pet Gecko (facebook page is the same). We talked with a gal and her young son in line; she did her best to sell us on getting a snake which we may do around Christmas but for now I'm content. We did enjoy the Expo even if it was a bit crowded. I was pretty excited that we got them to eat the same night as they came home.
