Reptile expos!

There are a lot of people who may give you grief for breeding a Leo with unknown genetics, especially an albino because it "muddies the waters" that they've been working hard to clean up.

I'm not going to be uptight and anal about genetics, in the end they were meant for pets and should remain as such. However any babies that he produces will not be sold, they will be given to friends and family to be used as pets. There will be no worries of "mudding the water".

Haha, its fine, you're not hijacking anything. Glad the thread helped you out though!

I'm not sure how much they would cost, since I've never been to one before. However, If you search your expo on a search engine they may have a site, somewhere on the site there should be a list of the vendors that will be attending. Somewhere in the listing there may also be links to those vendors personal websites and you can check their prices from there. Just keep in mind that prices maybe be significantly more or less at the expo then on the sites!

I gave that a go and was so somewhat put out at the results. One had the red stripes at 400 hand the reverse at 450. I'm mostly looking for a good looking pet and I've only allowed myself $300 for the day, for accessories and I had hope for something g pretty as well. Keeping my fingers crossed. Does anyone know if it's co consider bad manners to bargain with vendors? Is that reconsidered uncooth

Yeah depending on the genetics of the geckos they can be outrages prices. I've seen them as high as $1200. Sometimes looking them up on craigslist can help too, however you mostly see the "normal" leos on there since they are the most available at pet stores, but still worth a try. You can also try the classified's on this forum, just remember they are from breeders that bred them for specific traits so they'll also want a good chunk of change (200-500). Once again I dont know about prices at the expos since I've never been.

The breeders around me that I know and trust have those morphs listed on their FB page from $50 to $175 currently. It really depends on how bold the markings are, age, coloration, etc. But they're reputable breeders with known genetics and are particular in their care. Usually at the shows they will bargain with you as long as it is reasonable. For the price range above I'd say $10-$30 off.

These are US prices, I am assuming you are Canadian, so it would be slightly different for you? Not sure what the current exchange rate is. LOL

Thanks for the input! Unfortunately most of the breeders I've found around my area have been aiming for snows and albinos, which, though pretty, aren't what I'm looking for. And out of curiosity I compared American vs Canadian classifieds and there's a bit of a jump between prices for sure. We're really expensive up here! Turns out now $75 is the average asking price for JUST the Leo alone.
A $10 discount is still a win! I just didn't want to come off as rude or get nailed because prices are padded because heckling is expected!
I'm really hoping I can make it to this expo and find something nice....if not I may try mail order but it scares the crap out of me and I doubt anyone will ship until after the cold snap anyway.

Again, thanks for the advice! :)

Theres many people who have ordered animals via mail. Breeders with experience with shipping will include heating pads/hand warmers/etc + additives to keep humidity up. They will include everything that the gecko will need to survive the cold, for a short 24-48 hour period.

I have started a few threads that could maybe help you out with buying a gecko threw mail: http://geckoforums.net/f162-general-discussion/103304.htm

Yep, I'm ill. No expoing and new geckoing this time. I can't believe how depressing that is. :-(
Sorry to hear that looks like I'm going to have to have another back surgery myself and it's getting to me. Hope you get better

Sorry to hear that both of you. I get to go to the Cin City show on Sunday (assuming weather cooperates) and then I see my orthopedic surgeon on Monday. Most likely going to schedule my back surgery date then. I feel for both of you. Health problems really make it hard to lead a normal life sometimes.

I'm really hoping I can make it to the show so I can load up on some feeders, crested food and supplies. I have plenty but I am always worried I will be down longer than expected and don't want to put picking up supplies on anyone else. I'm a bit of a control freak with my animals, especially the reptiles and amphibians.
