Tomorrow I'll be going to my very first reptile show! I've been wanting to go to one for some time.

Can anyone tell me what to expect at a reptile show? I know that, obviously, there will be reptiles there.

I'm leaving all my money at home because I know I'll want to buy something.... :main_laugh:

Fun! If I were you I'd bring some money cuz they usually have good deals on feeders and other supplies. I've only been to a few shows myself, but I'm sure that some of the seasoned breeders on this site will be able to tell you more. Of course, if you do bring money you may end up with a tankmate for Toon:D

well picture a big room with rows of tables..

some really nice vendors.. some that are really trying hard to sell things and gets annoying..

some vendors really know there stuff..

some think they do but dont know much.

MOST vendors will do some bartering so dont be afraid to make an offer.

BEST place to buy feeders. i picked up 300 dubias for 25 bucks with a tub 1000 supers for 9 bucks.

lots of different animals most venders dont mind you holding them.

ASK PERMISSION before taking pictures of anyone animals.

any other questoins?

Yes, do take some cash for feeders and other supplies. The deals there are very good compaired to pet stores and you can get it in bulk. So much better than ordering online since you get it right there and don't have to wait for it. Just take a limited amount of cash so you aren't temped to buy more gex. I know I always fail at that. Told myself I would not get any last time and just supplies, walked out with 2 more geckos. Curse the gecko addiction!!! But yeah, reptile shows are awsome. You'll love it. Just get there early so you can see all the good morph the vendors might have. Get there late and they might be picked out.

I see you are in the Detroit area which means you are probably going to the Taylor, MI show. I will be there right next to Dave the bug guy, so feel free to stop by. I like meeting other forum members. It is a good local show with a variety of attendees and vendors. There are a couple other vendors that have leos. There are crested geckos, frogs, salamanders, bearded dragons, a lot of spiders and of course ball pythons on a regular basis. There are other cold blooded creatures, and a few other exotics of the warm blooded variety. There are also a couple different regulars that sell feeders, supplies, and other non-animal products for reptile enthusiasts.

Darnit, I didn't get this reply until after I got back, but I think I met you! You were with Retribution Reptiles, right? I was the blonde girl that showed you the pic of my gecko lol :main_laugh: I opened one of your containers to look at one. They were all very beautiful and well taken care of. There were a few vendors there that disgusted me with the way their geckos looked. You and Ohio Gecko and one other stand I can't remember the name of had the best-looking leos there.

I was very sad when I saw several leos at one stand that were obviously malnourished, their bones sticking out and pencil-thin tails. But the majority of stands had nice-looking leos. There were lots of other interesting animals that I've never seen or heard of before. I did take a little cash hoping to buy Toon some dubia roaches (her fav) but there were none left that I saw.

To anyone reading this post, if you're looking for geckos, Ohio Gecko and Retribution Reptiles have the best ones!

I can't wait for the All Ohio show on the 21st! It seems like an eternity away lol! They are essential for us as we save major money by not having to pay shipping on feeders..

Does anyone know of any good breeders that will be at the Steel City show in Washington Pa on the 28th? It'll be my first show and I'm currently searching for some new leos so didnt know if anyone had any recommendations?

We will not be there personally, but we are working with a friend to have some of our animals there. We'll have to keep you posted if we are able to work it out.

I appreciate your compliment, and you are correct that Thad has some nice animals as well. It is unfortunate that not all people (owners and breeders) care for their animals as much as they should. I turned down an offer from somebody who tried to give me two animals that were close to death (just to see them sickened me a little). She told me when she got them, and I couldn't believe they were 8 months old. They were smaller than my 2 month old hatchlings. Although I would love to think that I might have been able to save them I know that it would have been near impossible, and I also don't want to risk the health of the rest of my animals (yes we quarantine, but still a consideration).
