I really think this is a bad idea. Why would we want to treat something that isn't there? By constantly giving our geckos these medications, we would be risking creating 'super parasites' that are resistant to those drugs that would not respond to treatment with those drugs if it became necessary. Even though Panacur is a fairly safe drug, Flagyl can cause liver and kidney failure if not administered properly. We would have to control the exact amount of this food consumed by the reptiles to make sure the medication doses were not over-dosed.

I didn't even think about resistance. It happens all the time to bacteria and such from over using medicines. I wonder if they've thought about this.

I think it's a good concept, but as you've mentioned Marcia, not the best idea.

I agree that this is a good concept but one that would not be easily put into a safe practice

I just checked it out and it is fairly impossible for 1 product to be effective against ALL the bacteria listed that it should work against, especially the Coccidia. Same goes for the one against parasites.
Beaphar also has an over the counter product line with stuff thats supposed work like flagyl but it doesnt it isnt effective and very easy to overdose heard of several people who's animals died because of it :S
I know it may sound attractive because its less expensive than going to the vets but its always the safest and best thing to do even though you may have to spend a bit more money. :)

Coccidia IS a parsite, and requires specific medication to treat... same goes for other types of parasitic infections. Different infections require different treatments.

Why give your animals medications unless they need them?
