What do you guys do wit ur reptiles wen u go to college? do you give them away? keep them somewhere nearby? give them to a frend? I was just wondering because most colleges dont allow pets in the dorms.

well, I live in a apartment near the school so I have no problem with keeping pets. That really sucks about the "no pet in dorms" rule and that is why I didn't want to live in dorms when my school first started.

Many colleges make you stay on campus freshman year. You can have a 10 gallon tank, but that's it. I've had friend's leave their geckos at home for their parents to take care of. One friend had like 6 or so geckos that his dad got stuck with. I think he was trying to see if the lab at his school would let him bring them and live in the lab. He went to John's Hopkins and is in a science program, so it would have worked out. But, I don't know what he ended up doing.

Geckos are quiet. Most colleges tell you how to contact your roommate for verbal agreements before moving in. Most will give you a closet.

Just stating facts...

Geckos were legal in dorms my first year before they changed the rules on me. A few people did get hunted for (though I don't think caught) with cats and guinea pigs, etc.

Depends on the college and the dorm. Depends on your RA too. My cousin was the RA of his floor and allowed geckos. Because realistically if one gets loose what is it going to do? Poo in the hallway? Just look at the colleges you are interested and find out thier policies on animals.

I applied for exemption from the freshman year dorm requirement at my school since I lived 15-20 miles away and had easy access to transportation. You can check if you can do this with your school. I tried apartments near my college for my senior year, but they were all "No Pets Allowed," which is why I had to sell off my pets/collection :( Thank goodness I'm done, graduated, and moved back into a house - so my collection of pets is starting up with my fiance again :D

I've never dormed, so I don't know any of the pet policies at my university. Like GeckoStud said, check with your college because they may let you keep a 10 gallon tank.
