Alright, saw a free 2 year old female fat tailed Gecko on Craigslist, said it came with all this stuff. Said it used to be tame, but hadn't been handled in a long time.

Well went and got her about 20 minutes ago. She is a HE. Has a regrown tail. No toes...:( He has shed skin on all of his "toes" aka nubs, and I am soaking him and trying to get the shed skin off.

While I was at the house, the lady came out of the room with a fresh bite on her hand and blood dripping out, she just got bit by the fat tailed...I didn't care if she was mean, I just wanted her out of that place!

Well, they said HE was housed with two leopard geckos who died..he was on sand(took that out now on paper towels and slate)

On the plus side, they gave me a huge bag of stuff, vitamins, wood, houses, moss, sand, lots of hides, heat lamps, UTH's at least...400 dollars worth of stuff. And his tank is MASSIVE. It's like a 40 gallon breeder!! Worth 200 dollars from our pet store! I've decked it out with hides, trees, etc..They had all this great stuff but for some reason only had one hide in with him!

Now, when I got him, he didn't try to bite me when I picked him up(with gloves) and even when he freaked out when I set him in a bit of warm water to help with his toes he didn't bite me...I think it may have been because they were squeezing him? The lady basically had him in a death grip..:(

Now on to the questions..
I'm working on getting the shed skin off with a q-tip, but it's layers..and layers..and layers of shed skin, got any tips?

His mouth seems funny, maybe because of bad sheds, he seems in a good weight, nice and thick, he's big, but what are the symptoms of mouth rot?

Will he be okay with nubby feet?

Any other things I need to do?

Oh, do Fat Tailed gecko's require different care than Leo's, I thought they didn't but I'm not sure. I thought the only difference was a little more humidity.

Thanks for any and all help! Now to go and try and get all that skin off!!

EDIT: I was gently working off the soft shed skin(from soaking) and his nubs on one foot started bleeding :( :( It's all off now...

Congratulations on your fat tail. THey are incredibly mellow reptiles.

He will be fine with nubby feet. Fat tails don't seem to like climbing as much as leopard geckos.

He will most likely eat only crickets; most fat tails won't eat mealworms

Fat tails care is very similar to leo care but they need a bit more humidity. You can either keep them in a planted tank with coco fiber or just mist the cage occasionally.

Fatties do need a bit more humidity than leos.
Keep him on paper towels while his toe nubs heal up, you don't want him getting cocofibre stuck on those bloody toenubs, for sure! You can provide a humid hide for him using a delicup with a door cut into it, and some damp sphagnum moss in there. Mist him nightly but let his enclosure dry out between mistings so his toes don't get infected, too much moisture can harbor bacteria and you want those toes to heal up.

Poor thing was man-handled and freaked out by the sounds of it, it is quite unusual for a fattie to be mean and bitey, there is usually a very good reason for it.
They are quite hardy gecko, mine love roaches and gut-loaded crickets. Good luck with your new buddy, I'm glad you rescued the poor thing.

How I wish people would do their research before getting an animal! sheeeesh. they're not toys to be thrown in a corner once "bored" with them.:(
