when you get a pet, you keep with it till it passes away. thats the way its supposed to be. why do i keep seeing ads on here willing to TRADE leos or others for material things? i can understand selling an animal because thats what breeders do! but they take care of the animals. in adopting, normally those animals need help that the current owner cant provide. for gods sake people quit treating animals like a pair of shoes!!! you cant get rid of it when youre tired of it. its a life long commitment and you should be honored to have those trusting eyes looking at you! im not trying to be rude..it just irks me how some people would rather have something material than a pet..especially a pet that relies on them.
sorry. just aggravated.

*if i have offended anyone im sorry, i did not mean to. i just wanted to get this off my chest.

I do see what you mean, and I'm not offended, but I'd rather see someone who has lost interest in a pet sell (or better yet, give) it to someone else who wants to care for it, rather than neglect it. It would be best if the person didn't get a pet at all, but sometimes, especially in the case of young people just finding out who they are, they can't anticipate how they'll feel once they have the pet.

I totally understand. :) And, maybe it's good to aggravate some of the "easy traders"--maybe they'll realize that they should care a little bit more about their pets. :) Glad you got that off your chest!

aliza, now that i look at it from the point of people neglecting i can understand... i just wish they would stick with it. its no easy thing taking on the responsibility of an animal. they depend fully on you.

thanks timo and danielle, and thank you aliza

I can see where you're coming from but it begs the question:

What is the difference of selling an animal, and then using the money to buy something else?

Why is it wrong for breeders to trade animals that they would be selling anyway for something that they want?

And finally, as Aliza stated, it is preferable for someone to rehome/sell/trade an animal or animals rather than just getting bored and neglecting it forever. I have rescued more than a couple animals that were neglected rather than being rehomed/sold/traded. It isn't pretty.

Yes, pets should be a life long commitment and I agree that more people need to step up to the plate more often instead of viewing animals as a disposable commodity. Unfortunately, though, this isn't a perfect world.

Just my 2 cents.
