Rheostat/dimmer?

I am ordering new UTHs for my leos. I have them seperately in 10g all-glass aquariums with screen tops. I am thinking of ordering the Exo-Terra 8"x8" 8w UTHs. Will these get too hot without a dimmer or would I be better off going with the smaller size?

Any suggestions?

those are supposed to keep the correct temps for a 10-20 gallon tank but I would set it up and check it and make sure, you may need a dimmer and you may not, I prefer thermostats set to the right temp then you don't have to worry about the temps as much.

with a dimmer the temp must stay the same in the room all the time or the temp will change in the cage too.

I did an experiment recently with UTH's and 10 gallon tanks. It was during the summer but not during a heat wave. In a 10 gallon with ceramic tile substrate, the zoo-med mini UTH (recommended for 1-5 gallons) kept temps at about 90-92. The larger UTH (10-20 gallons) kept the temp inside the hide at about 106.
