Okay, I got my very first order of mixed size dubia roaches today from The Roach Guy. This is the first time I have seen them FULL GROWN!

Horror memories of city apartment living washed over me while I watched in terror 1 1/2 '' long winged monsters scurrying around in their deli cup.

For a moment, I had the impulse to grab a can of Raid!!

I keep telling myself, "but their OK, their a way different kind of roach, they are, they ARE!!!!". It's not doing much good!! :(

Oh, and folks say, "hey, the males have wings, but they dont FLY"!!

I said to myself, I said "self", these boys look like they can fly like a Stealth Bomber!!!

Does it make any sense for Mother Nature to provide HUGH wings that dont work?? I dont think so. :main_rolleyes:

How can you guys handle breeding these creatures?

As I type this, I keep feeling "things" crawling on me!

Maybe I will get used to them, or maybe they will kill and eat me in my sleep!!

The things I do for my leos!!! ;)

End of paranoid and incomprehensible rant :main_lipsrsealed:

Lol. I almost thought the same thing when I received them with all of the "perfect" talk about them. But I am very glad I got them, and the babies aren't as scary which are the only ones I need to handle. :D

I have a huge fear of bugs in general. I freaked at even the thought of roaches in my house. But after having them for awhile, they're no big deal. I do not touch any bugs with my hands, but I can handle them with the feeding tongs with no problems. It really does get easier.

I dont have much prob w/ bugs in general, but ROACHES!!!!

These guys are so big, when I put them in their cage, and stuck the pieces of egg crate in there, they were moving them around! Creepy!!

Yeah I use long 10'' tweezers. I dont mind handling the small ones, but if one of those adults go running up my arm, the whole colony gets zapped with Raid!!!!!!!! LOL :main_laugh:

It's not so much the moving but when they start stacking pieces that look suspiciously like a ladder........

I always thought that they would bother me, so I have never bought any, but a good friend gets them all of the time.. I was looking at them (not touching them of course), and they actually looked pretty cool to me.. Of course, things are always so different when they are crawling around your house and are not supposed to be there.. I mean, I like mice and think they are cute, but if a mouse scurries across the floor out of nowhere, I FREAK out! I suppose the difference is the diseases that the "wild types" carry, as opposed to store-bought being much cleaner and healthier.

Well the roaches didn't bother me but the 'wild' ones that can live in my house do  go figure.... my daughter is actually telling me that she doesn't think she wants to feed them to the geckos.... I DONT THINK SO! lol

I was alittle worried myself in the beginning. They aren't bad to handle. I worry sometimes about them getting out of the tub I have them in. I have seen two of the crawl the side of the tub, but I have a band of vaseline in there now so no worries.

i keep them and i think they are actually cute. :D

Yeah I've read that the Madagascar hissers actually make good pets due to their harmless and docile nature.

To me, the only "cute" roach is the one I scrape off the bottom of my shoe! :p
