Hi!

I'm searching for some live plants for my new tank build for my leos. Does anyone know of some common house plants that are non - toxic to them? Some websites say one thing, another a different thing, so I was just wondering.

Thanks!

Anthuriums are great I've heard. they sell them often around valentines/mother's day because the leaves and the flowers are heart shaped! Here's mine about to bloom PXL_20210322_221129196.jpg

Since the leos don't eat plants I don't think any will harm them. Remember that a lot of plants will keep the humidity up and will need to be watered. You may want to consider succulents in little pots. That way, when they need watering you can take them out and drench them.

Pothos, philodendrons, monsteras, air plants, ferns, sansevieria, prayer plants, peperomia & bromeliads are all great options that thrive in the conditions of a tank. Keepers use these all the time with reptiles and they’re considered to be “reptile safe” but if you google each plant it might say it’s toxic to pets because it might be toxic to dogs or cats. Dogs and cats have different behaviors & can just eat a whole plant and get sick, so they’re going to have a different set of answers than reptile safe plants. You want to make sure the plants don’t have any irritating sap in case your Leo decides to break a branch, and make sure not to give them anything that’s poisonous like nightshade.
