I have a baby Savvy it is about 5 to 8 months old. He isnt growing that much I give him crickets and he eats pinky mice 3 at a time every couple of days. Do they grow pretty fast or is it a slow process?

What is the temp for his basking area?
It needs to be between 120 and 130 degrees for a basking spot.
Once you warm them up to optimal temps, they grow FAST.

They should grow fast... Monitor lizards should be close to fully grown in a year... Basking temps should be around what SPJ says (personally I would go with 110 to 115) and the ambient air temps should be in the mid to upper 80s...
You should think about building or buying a fully enclosed cage... AGAs are not suitable for housing monitor lizards... Much of the valuable heat and humidity goes right out through the top and thin glass walls..

Here is a good rule to go by...
"Keep them hot and feed them a lot!!!"

I can't add anything else to this. These guys know thier lizards, so warm him up and give LOTS of food and see if that works.
My two were barely a month old and a touch over 4 inches long when I got them. Now, at 8 months old, they're both almost 2 feet long and eating machines!
You can feed them a hundred times a day and they'd still act like they're starving!
