Almost a deadly ending!!! Thursday night I forgot to lock the door on my exo-terra tank. At four thirty is was awakened by a blood curdling scream!!It was dark and I couldn't figure out what it was then I saw that the tank doors were open just enough for two geckos to escape. I looked over and there was my cat sniffy one of my females. I quickly grabbed the cat and through her out my room and shut the door. My Gecko was losing it!! I couldn't even get her in a net so I confined her til she settled down. I then began the search for my other gecko. She was know where to be found. I paniced!! I found her a half hour later hiding in the curtains of the spare bedroom. Since my cat had only found the one and the other one got so much farther I came to the conclusion that my tang female(the one that got farther) pushed open the door and then later on my normal female realized that the doors were open and made a break for it soon being found by my cat. Now ever since they are always making a break for the door when I open it. Even the one that got scared *******. Its not the funnest noise to wake up to.:main_laugh:

Awwwwww poor geckos! At least you found them. I would have totally flipped out if My geckos got loose and I had a cat. First I would lock up the cat in the bathroom or something AFTER searching it while someone is holding the cat so I don't take a chance that the cat finds them first.

ya I locked the cat up stairs once I figured out that she wasn't in my room. I expected her to be under the furnace but she was in the coldest room....

I never heard, of a gecko yelling loud enough to wake somebody up. I just glad you found them both. What a story.

Yeah I am sure that was SCARY!!! We actually had a very similar situation.. we had one gecko escape to be found by a cat, and our cat literally had the gecko under it's paws (but her claws didn't touch the gecko because it was so small, thankfully). Like yours, our gecko let out a HORRIBLE scream (we were already awake, though) He didn't drop his tail; but he had just hatched only hours before, plus it was our very first hatchling, so that wasn't a very fun night for us either!

I am so very glad that your two geckos are safe and not injured or anything!!

I have thought about getting a cat, but I think I will not. Especially after that story and having a few geckos that like to try and escape every chance they get.
Thanks,
Carin

I'd absolute panick if my geckos got out, I've got a mild form of OCD though (which comes in handy sometimes), check the tank about 40 times before I go out or go sleep lol

I have SIX cats..........and haven't had any problems yet. *crosses fingers hoping not to jinx self* Of course, the geckos are in their own room with a closed door..........that probably helps. ;)

It couldn't of scared them too bad. My tang laid her eggs Friday and my normal laid he eggs last night. I was scared though. I can't imagine if one ever escaped and I couldn't find it. I'm always locking they're door now.
