Sorry for a newbie question, but what is a screamer, and what is the definition.

kind of... it is a gecko whose orange coloration is so bright its "screaming". this term would not be used to describe a really nice mack snow, for example.

Actually a screamer would refer to any type that is well above average in the looks dept....should be reserved for the best of the best!

actually you're wrong. do a search on here or on fauna for the word 'screamer' and see how many non tangerine geckos pop up. here use this...
'screamer' search on Fauna

it refers to any gecko that is saturated with orange coloration. a hypo, albino or otherwise and is usually exclaimed like so: "WHAT A SCREAMER!!" and is in fact reserved for the most colorful tangerine examples.

its a term that was made popular during a time when a solid orange leo was the most coveted of leopard geckos.

Wow, that's all a little uncalled for I think. People also use it to describe babies that scream constantly. Use it how ever you want!

That is not necessary :main_thumbsdown:

i feel it was necessary. thanks for your opinion however.

i included solid evidence and he chose to ignore the facts. you can call anything you want whatever you want. just don't lie to the people who are new to the hobby and seeking reliable information just because you feel like arguing.

the wonderfully colored leo in your avatar, Andrea, is a prime example of a screamer. i've laid out the evidence and if Chris chooses to ignore it and stand by what he said than clearly he cares nothing of the truth and would rather be wrong than admit he was initially incorrect.

to leave the discusion with his post as the final word on what a screamer is would be irresponsible of me when i know he is wrong. i've been on these forums for a while and as i have proven, a screamer is used to describe a orange leopard gecko that has an above average saturation of orange coloration. prove me wrong.

and to refer to a hatchling that screams constantly as a screamer would be using the websters definition of the word and i highly doubt his initial inquiry was about the definition of the word screamer. if it was, here you go...

screamer: a person or thing that screams.

but in reference to how the term has been used as a slang term over the years in the leopard gecko hobby it is this... an exceptionally colored orange leopard gecko. if you doubt me than simply do a search or click the link i embedded in my earlier post. the evidence is right there. i rest my case.

wow, that wasnt very nice. any way, screamers in general are used for orange. but CAN be used for any other brightly colored leo. including a high orange, or even a normal albino that is just bright and above avarege. so your both right. hows that sound?

maybe i get carried away sometimes. my initial response to the question was nice i just didn't like how he quoted me and was so matter-of-fact about what i said. maybe nowadays the term 'screamer' is used more loosely but i went out of my way to state my case and Chris was being passive agressive. it struck a nerve and that apparently showed in my wording. i'll try harder to play nice.

I myself refer to hatchlings who are extremely jumpy and screamy screamers. For example my little co dom het blizzard is a screamer. You can't even pull her tub out without her letting you know she is there :p One person may talk about an extremely nice tang as a real screamer, one may talk about bell supersnow with a very nice pattern being a screamer, one may just be refering to a very jumpy hatchling as a screamer. Point being to answer your question CRS I think you should be informed of all three definitions, because anyone could be refering to any one of the three:)

should it chris? does it? well if chris says it than make it so. from here on... what Chris says goes. all hail chris and his eternal well of knowledge.

and once again, i'm quite sure CRS is familiar with the literal meaning. that would be like if someone asked...

"what is a tangerine and what is the definition?"

and your response was "a type of Egyptian orange that is smaller than most oranges and the skin of some varieties peels off more easily. The taste is often more bitter and more salty than that of an orange."

and with that...i'm finished with this thread. i bid thee good day.
