Second Opinion

Alright, I know this can always get you a million answers, but any secondary opinions might help. I go around my state (NH) and check out all of the pet stores in hopes that I might find something nice and more or less rescue any animals that are under cared for and simply labeled "leopard gecko". One of my good friends is a small breeder who sells a couple of thousand leos a year so between the two of us it all works out. Anyways, about a month ago I came across this guy. After a couple of hours of debate we're leaning towards a Nieves Tangerine, or something from that line anyways. Thoughts?

To try and squash any further questions:

1) I have absolutely NO idea on the lineage and neither does the place I got it (they arent even sure where they got it).
2) Eyes are "normal"
3) Hard to see in this picture, but the tip of the tail is grey/lavender
4) When I got it I was thinking bold stripe but in the last month the colors/patterns have really started to pop. (Was really undersized, but is starting to eat and put on weight rapidly)
5) Has white socks on all feet

He's a nice hypo-tangerine male. I wouldn't consider him a true carrot-tail because he has a large area of melanin at the base of his tail. He was probably striped as a baby, and 'hypo'd out'. The white feet and pattern could mean he as some eclipse influence, but the only way to verify this would be to breed him and see what surprises come from it.

some breeders throw out a percentage of 35% for it to be carrottail.Thats obviously opinions only.

Originally we thought it was a SHTCT, but comparitively it has little resemblance to the dozens that we have currently.

Check out the wiki link on the Nieves, its nearly identical to those (limited) pictures. http://leopardgeckowiki.com/index.php?title=Nieves_Tangerine
Notice the stark blotchy head pattern? The red dorsal stripe?

Compare to the SHTCT http://leopardgeckowiki.com/index.php?title=Super_Hypo_Tangerine_Carrot_Tail
Besides the tail itself the two have very little in common.

Again, I am not claiming that is what he is (a Nieves), I know how rare they are nowadays, but if he is then that is the best $20 find in some time I would wager.

I'll be breeding it next season when he is large enough to do so and see what we can figure out.
