Selling skinny leopard geckos?

I was at the Reptile Super Show on sunday, and of course I was going insane over how many leopard geckos they had, and of course I had to see every single one (which I'm proud to say I think I did). But there was this guy trying to get rid of his leopard geckos, even when they were really unhealthily skinny. I asked him why and he said they just laid eggs. I don't know if that's true -- is it?

Also...that's still no excuse to sell leopard geckos. Gah. It made me feel sick.

Females will lose a lot of weight during the season, but they shouldn't look sickly.

Dude, that nothing while i was picking a pair of giants from West coast geckos, some guy came over with one he just had bough and asked the Gary (west coast geckos owner) what he could breed that to.. Gary took the deli-cup to look at the gecko the guy just had bought, and it was missing part of his mouth. the guy didnt even knoticed... when he took it back and came back to Gary's table he said that the geckos opened its mouth and it was bleeding...

People do horrible things in the reptile industry. The more your around it the more you will see. I can't count the times I've seen babies for sale, noticeably smaller than my day old hatchlings.

There's a difference between thin and skinny. If a gecko is skinny from laying eggs, IMO she wasn't properly fed OR cared for. As Tony said, the female will lose some weight. By no means should she look sickly! It's okay if she looks a bit thin as long as there is some plumpness in her tail. Pencil tail=more serious problems. I've brought home less than healthy geckos from a show, one that was real bad sick. Both of those sellers were up-front about their condition. If I didn't know anything about rehabbing lizards I wouldn't have taken them. Of course the price was very reduced. Sometimes people just want out of geckos or took them in a trade intending to resell, and I don't think it's unethical to sell in less than top condition as long as everything is disclosed. Best case scenario is to know the seller and their reputation. We vend at shows and know who not to buy from- sad.

i know how that goes! i just ordered a few more geckos offline coz i cant go go to my shows and got 2 good weight once then the sickly, thin one. they said she had dropped 2 grams after being moved to a holding cage....her tails tiny, her tummys tiny shes 7 inchs and was 28 grams. shes not a breeder either.=-= its amazing what people will do or say to make money.
