set up ? and thermoststs need help

i need help on where to put my thermostat remote sencor i have a uth and a heat lamp tha will be on the thermostat its a zoomed reptitemp 500r i dont know where to put the sensor i have reptile carpet and thats it i have 3 hides and water and a food dish right now i have the sensor taped to the glass above the hot hind and the uth should i put it tuching the carpet ? pls help thank you paul lioi

You will not need both a heat lamp and UTH. The UTH should be plenty to supply belly heat. I am assuming that the UTH is attached under the glass tank. It should take up 1/3 of the floor space. I found the best place is to tape it directly on top of the carpet, over the UTH. Also, use a digital thermometer or infrared gun and check the temps since the Zoomed does not have a read out, just a dial. Hope this helps you.;)

I would recommend putting your probe directly over the UTH but under the reptile carpet. The reptile carpet is around a 12 degree insulator, so if your thermostat reads 100 then the actual temp is 88. You will want your thermostat to read 105-108 for optimal temps for your gecko. You will not want to use lights on the gecko. There has been many discussions on lights just plug into the search on this site.

I'm curious what difference it makes whether it's above or below? Wouldn't you still just set it for the temp you need wherever it's located?
