I had a hatchling escape almost 2 weeks ago. I finaly found the poor little guy about 10 minutes ago, bad part is the cat found him first... Im looking him over, and over all he seems ok, but he apparently let go of his tail to get away from the cat, but didnt fully let go. I know people before have said about partial breaks, but this is literly almost a complete brake, id say probably somewhere around 98% detached, I know I need to remove it the rest of the way, but how should I do it? Im worried about it because he is twitching it wildly im not sure if this is actually him doing it, or just the nerves in the dead part of the tail going crazy? I want to make sure this little guy is alright.

the gecko is twitching or the tail? if the tail is twitching, that is normal. chances are it will fall off completely if it is 98% detached. just put him in an enclosure for now. if it has not fallen off by tomorrow then maybe you need to snip the last bit off.

Its just the tip that he dropped, I was hoping its just the nerves in the tail going haywire, he looks physically fine besides that. Hopefully he drops it on his own. Btw it just so happened that out of 45 hatchlings I have, the only Tremper SS is the one who decides to escape....

Needless to say I am highly considering ripping my home made racks apart and purchasing professionally made ones, after something like that happens, the couple hundred I saved on building my own is no longer justified. I would have rather laid out a grand or 2 and my SSTA still have its full tail

How big of a gap did you have between the tub and the shelf? I know on my homemade rack, there was enough room to leave the tub lid on. I sleep a lot better knowing that the lids are on for my homemade rack. My AP racks are a different story. There are no lids on them and the gap is very small. I am very happy with them.
