She bit me!!!!

I got my gecko out last night, and she ran under my bed. I tried to get her out in the least scary way (she was under a drawer) and managed to grab her. I was almost out from under the bed, when I noticed that her mouth was open. I had time to think "stress response" before she bit me!!!! I was so surprised by how wide she could open her mouth. It was soooo cool (no, I do not enjoy getting injured but it does fascinate me- I'm an aspiring dr.). Poor girl :( . I tried to be as unscary as possible, but I failed miserably. She drew blood, and bit me on either size of my pointer finger and draw blood, no small feat for such a small creature.

So, that is the tale of my first official reptile bite :D :main_yes:

Oh dear!!! I did a bad job proof reading my post. Sorry.

LOL. She's very sweet, but just doesn't lie being held. We're working on that though, and she's getting to be much better :main_yes:

I'm sure that whole experience was stressful - trying to get her out without scaring her, it can be really hard to do that sometimes. I can't believe she drew blood too!!

I have been bitten several times by my male, lol, it really just makes me laugh because he only does it to protect his females. Anytime I go into the cage for cleaning, if he's in a hidebox, he immediately sticks his head out to make sure everything's okay. Sometimes he feels the need to come out entirely, and he bites me all of the time! One time, he even put his mouth around my finger, and I literally felt him sqeeze as hard as he could for several seconds before he let go! He has gotten better though; since I've been handling him more, he hasn't tried to bite me again (yet)

My husbands reverse stripe male ( mael) loves to bite the crap out of me. He will go after any place he sees skin. Out of all 23, he is the only biter.

Only one Bad Bite To learn

My big guy Conan (120+ grams SHTCTB) would not eat upon arrival....He refused to eat on his own. Ron Tremper suggested and told me how to try to get him eating. Cut the heads off meal worms, tap the side of his mouth, when he opens, stick a worm in. Do 2 or three every night or two. It seemed a little difficult but it did work. I was feeding him by hand with the assumption that even a bite would not draw blood. Was I ever wrong. He latched on to my thumb one night and shook it at the same time. It was like an alligator bite. I thought it would never stop bleeding. Wooden tongs are now used for even the mildest geckos I have........His holdout went on for 8 months. He dropped from 123 to 106 grams. before he started on his own. That night he started on his own, he ate 30 wax worms..... take care. / HJ
