Well i haven't posted on these forums in a while, but i really need some help right now. My female leo has shed stuck to the end of her toes. I have a humid hide in her tank, i have been soaking her feet in warm water every night, but when i try to use tweezers to peel the skin off after soaking, she squirms 2 much and i cant get it off without hurting her. if i try to keep her from moving she tries 2 bite and I dont want to totally stress her out. Her humid hide is a tanish color. should i get a darker color so she feels more secure? or one of those special shedding hides online from somewhere. i just dont want her to lose her toes.any suggestions? thanks for any help.

Q-tip works for me, luckily the only one that has toe shed problems for me is my sweetest leo so she'll let me do whatever to help her. Good thing it isn't my mack, she'd have no feet left!

To add to this:

Damp warm paper towels also work really well for this. My male has the same issues on his toes and this helps get the stuck shed off more quickly.

If you are having further trouble, then simply use a container with wet paper towels and set her in there for a few minutes (like ten to twenty). This will stress her out less then the tweezer method and should be repeated until the shed comes off.

bad news....... i soaked her in warm water. but she wont stay still so i can get the skin off. She keeps squirming. i tried the cotton balls. I cant use tweezers cus i cant hold her still. and now the tip of one of her toes is all swelled and red. i hate for her to lose one of her toes. im gunna moisten the hide that she is in the most and see if that helps. but idk if it will work

I use peat moss in the hide container and wet it down til its moist. Once the gecko goes in the hide container his feet will get moisten enough to help with the shed. You can also get a glove (fleece, cotton) and wet the finger tips of the glove, put your hand in the glove and gently apply moisture to the geckos feet/toes. I'm sure that will help.

literally put her in a damp papertowel lined container(vented with holes) over the heat sourse over night. From there the shed should soften up and you can use a Qtip, cotton ball or if need be your fingers to loosen the shin on her toes.

I would rather be bitten by a stressed gecko than lose a toe tip to be honest.

Amen, Paul! :main_thumbsup: That's exactly what I do, and it works perfectly every time--most of the time the stuck shed becomes so water-logged, it just falls off by itself...good luck!

I have that problem all the time with one of mine. She gets irritated when I take the skin off but she gets over it. When they bite you while taking the skin off, it normally isn't hard. It's just a little nip. To take it off I just dip her toes in water for a couple seconds and gently use my nails to peel the skin off of her toes. I wouldn't recommend that to everyone though. I have great control over my hands so I know I won't hurt her by doing that.
