Shedding and feeding question

Is it normal for Leos to look like their eyes are hardly open while they are shedding? I'm slightly worried because I have also heard that is a sign of impaction. The little dude wont eat, hardly moves, but I dont see any dark spots on his belly yet. I did just change out his enviroment, and before that I had him for a few days (got him from a guy who barely took care of him).

Could his lack of eating be due to stress?

Also, when misting to aid in shedding, should I be misting the gecko itself, or just the humid hide?

You don't need to mist leopard geckos; just put moist paper towel in the humid hide; that should suffice. Yes, sometimes they close their eyes when shedding; just make sure he doesn't have stuck shed in his eyes and gets everything off.

If he wasn't well taken care of before, he might be malnourished or have parasites. Just check if his poop looks normal, and if not, take a sample to the vet for a "fecal stain." Otherwise, it can be stress related; if you had your leo only for a week or so, he might need some time for acclimating. Also, when they're eating their shed, they're less hungry for other things. He should start hunting crickets/mealworms when he's done shedding, though!

Good luck! Seems like you take well care of him :main_yes:

Thanks Chrissy, its definitely been a sink or swim type experience for me haha. He/She doesn't seem to be pooping much (it has only happened once since I have had it), is that normal? Or do they just poop after every meal?
