Shedding problems >.<

Well today i noticed Peppa was really pale and ready to shed. I made sure her moist hide was extra damp to help her and she was sat in it a good while.

I had to go out of the room to do some things for a few hours and when i came in she was halfway through shedding.

I looked in on her as i always check them to see if theyre managing and the poor little thing had a piece of shed wrapped round her face :( It was totally covering one eye and went from one side of her mouth to the other, going over half her nose too. She was rubbing against her hide but just seemed to be rolling it up more and not getting it off.

So i started to help her by trying to grip the skin between my fingers and i managed to help her get it off her eye.

I also noticed she had it stuck on her back feet and 2 toes on one of her front feet. When she was trying to get it off her feet it seemed really brittle and was comming off in little bits instead of normally how they pull it off in one piece like a sock.

I gave her a nice warm soak and managed to get the shed off one of her back feet and i was surprised by how calm she was letting me rub the stuff forward on her face with a q-tip...almost as if she knew i was trying to help her :)

Eventually we managed to team up and i grabbed the skin on her face while she pulled and we got it off :)

She also managed to get the bit off her front toes too. Just stuck with the back foot now but she just seems really tired and wants to sleep instead :(

Other than soaking again and trying to rub it off her foot is there anything else i can do to help her? I know she has shed once before and had no problems with it and i dont understand why her shed skin seems so brittle. She hadnt eaten for a few days before she started getting ready to shed but had a few little grey poops as she was still eating calcium.

Also Freya my baby seems to have a few tiny speckles of shed skin under her eye on her cheek. She is the only gecko i have that will not tolerate handling at all so im in a bit of a pinch as to how to try and get it off. It doesnt seem to be bothering her and at first i thought it was just calcium powder the specks are so tiny. Do you think she will be ok to just leave it and hope it come off with the next shed?

I spray their moist hides a few times a day as they seem to dry out fairly quickly in the plastic tanks so i am trying to make sure theyre ok for shedding.

Thanks in advance for any help :main_thumbsup:

Take 3 pieces of paper towel fold them to fit in there humid hide and pour water into it till it literally runs a little out of the humid hide also what is the temp on the cool side where the hide is ?

The moist hide is half on half off the cool and warm sides so its about 90-95 on the warm end and about 80 on the cool side.

The moist hide normally has enough humidity to have condensation on the sides so im sure its ok.

The thing im worried about is that because she hasnt eaten properly in 3-4 days could that be why her skin has been so brittle and been harder to get off?

Before she shed last time she was eating well even during her shedding time.

Tbh apart from the 2 babies all my geckos are a little off their food atm. They are still active and healthy and not losing any weight, just not that interested in food. Thinking it is either due to the warmer weather or the time of year.

I personally think your cool side is too warm. It should be about 75 mine is (72). I personally feel you need to move the humid hide to the coolest part of your enclosure.

I doubt not eating for 3-4 days would cause the skin problem, it sounds like just not enough moisture. I could be wrong though.

As gecko's get older they do not eat as often.

I am not an expert, this is just my opinion. I do not have any shedding problems and this is what I do.

I just helped my gecko pulled off his "gloves" yesterday. When they have stuck shed on the feet, I will rub it with wet cotton square, then use tweezers to peel off the shed for them. I use cosmetic tweezers that has a sharp edge, it works really well but you need extra steady hands and a calm gecko.
