Shedding?

My adult male AFT looks like he's going to shed. He has a crusty, milky, shiny looking appearance, as you can see in the pic. He has looked liked this for about a week now, but is still eating fine and pooping. He still runs out of his cave when I look into his cage. I keep a humid hide in his cage and his coco fiber moist all the time. Is something wrong?

I'll try that. Only his back looks like he's going to shed, and the base of his tail looks crusty. My leos never take this long to shed. His tail feels smooth and looks glossy.

what is your humid hide set up? if you have a humid hide and you keep the entire cage wet, might be you are overdoing it. does he have a dry place he can go? also what are the temps you are keeping him at?

i had the same thing happen once, i think it was because they were too cold. they looked like that untill the next time they shed. i would definately check the temps *inside* the warm hide. just put your thermometer right inside the warm hide. they might be a lot colder than you think.

His warm hide has dry soil under it. I keep the warm side of the tank around 85 degrees F during the day and around 80 or 82 degrees F at night. He looks much more white today, I think he will shed soon. He did get down to around 75 a couple of nights a week or two ago before we turned the heat on. Maybe that caused it.

really 75 is ok. like i said though, i recommend checking the temp *inside* the hide. it could be pretty different from where you are measuring it at. hopefully he will shed soon though, and that will be the end of that.

also, he might want a warm humid hide. for my geckos that is their favorite place to hang out.

I'll meaure the temp under the hide tonight and let you know tommorrow. My other fat tail loves her warm humid hide, and I'm planning on rearranging his tank so I can fit the humid hide on the warm side. His hut with dry soil is a rock cave with a small opening right over a heat pad, so I'm guessing it will be pretty warm. I'll let you know tommorrow.
