Shipping Grievances

I bough two geckos online and they were supposed to arrive yesterday by 3. It was supposed to be express 1 day shipping, and now they have been in shipment over 36 hours. I've made several attempts to contact, as had the breeder who has been wonderful, with no luck. As it is now Sunday, they (USPS) appear to be closed and the phone robot is getting annoying. I have no idea how to get a hold of the post, or try to pick up my geckos. I live near philly, and they arrived in philly yesterday morning, then shipped over to NJ. They failed to update the tracking, as I kept a close eye on it all day yesterday. It was updated this morning saying they were shipped back to philly by 3. Still no geckos here.

I'm very concerned for my two new girls, I don't know what to do at this point, and in this weather I'm afraid they will get too cold or stressed. Has anyone ever had any issues like this and is there a way to pick up even on Sunday? I just want them home safe!

There isn't anything that can be done today.... all postal companies/agencies are closed on sunday which is why breeders don't do weekend shipments as a rule of thumb.

Unfortunately, nothing can be done. Most responsibke breeders say on their webpage (or tell you) that they only ship "overnight 1day delivery; Mon - Wed" so the geckos are at a minimal risk.....1 day lost in transit instead of "lost for the weekend...shipped thursday...arrive maybe monday"

Fingers crossed that they will be ok. I do feel your despair, and frustration. Hopefully, they will just be a little dehydrated. Every time I ship, I lose sleep worrying.
If you ever decide to get another one, be sure that they only shipped Mon - Weds, and that they ship either FedEx or UPS priority overnight. USPS does not have a good tracking system.

Based on my own experience, I highly recommend never to have anything shipped USPS. As mentioned above, they have very poor tracking info, even when you have a tracking number. I've had only 1 experience receiving a gecko (before I knew any better) via USPS: I foolishly agreed to receive a juvie day gecko 2nd day air with a 40 hour heat pack via USPS. The gecko got lost in the mail, it took 3 days, and the day of arrival it was 12 degress (F) out! I opened the package and there was a perfectly formed and perfectly motionless Gold Dust day gecko.

The story does have a happy ending: I gently breathed on it and to my surprise, it started to move. That was 8 years ago and I still have her.

Your geckos are pretty hardy. I hope you get them tomorrow and there's a good chance they'll be fine.

I'm hoping for a good update today too! Fingers crossed! Like other have said most breeders only ship FedEx M-W overnight. It's a bit pricey ($30-$60) but well worth the safety of the animal.

When I've got mine she was "dead". It was -10 C outside and she was packed with a 0.5 bottle of warm water for heating. It was "over night" shipping and I'm not sure how long was until the water got cold.
The good thing was that after 10 minutes on room temperature she got back to life :)
So don't worry and just an advice if they are too cold don't try and warm them fast, just leave them at room temperature and after they start moving around then start warming them up. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll be okay when you get them! :)

Guys I'm so sorry I haven't checked this in a few days (midterm week)! Thanks so much for all the concern it means a lot! All is well now! I got them late on monday dealing with some not so nice usps people.. Overall they were in shipment from friday to monday. Don't think I will ever go by them again. The poor girls were freezing and stressed and the one was circling pretty bad, but she has since settled in and has stopped. Both are now fine and warm and eating happily!
