I can't wait for the weekend! We go buying big ticket items ... well... almost never. We're hoping that Labor Day weekend will produce some good sales. We're planning on getting a new vacuum, fancy-pants camera, and a car! It means buying a new rack will have to wait, but I'm OK with that. We've been wanting a really nice camera for a YEARS, and we finally have the money to buy one. Breaking the bank is gonna be fun!

Oh...I suppose I might mention what we're getting. LOL

I've decided on the Bissel Healthy Home (5770) bagless upright. Considering we bought our current vacuum 8 years ago, and it was the cheapest one we could find, you can imagine how excited I am to replace it!

As for the camera, we're probably going to get the Olympia 410 digital SLR. It's 10 megapixles, lots of bells and whistles, and we'll probably get 2 lenses to go with it. Our current camera is a point and shoot 1.2 megapixel. Again.... YAY!!!

As for the car, I don't know yet. We might go to Carmax and find something there. Our last ones from there lasted 8+ years each...not bad for being used! Or, we might just buy something dirt cheap to get us through until we can better afford financing. Who knows. Having a car vs. having no car is a no-brainer YAAAYYYYYYY!

Sounds like you're going to have a fun weekend! I don't know about the Carmax's up there but the ones down here charge outrageous prices for their cars. Just make sure you know you're getting a good deal and post tons of pictures of everything with your new camera!

They aren't too bad around here. Having a car I can trust is worth it. That's what worries me if we get a cash car. Who knows how long it's going to last.

Crap-on-a-stick. I've been car hunting all day, and found a car I REALLY want. The problem is, I'm stuck at home cuz Eric has the car, so I can't go look at it today. They close before he gets home. Then, tomorrow, they're open during the time that I have to be at work. So I won't get to go see it til Saturday.

It's a 2003 Impala, low milage, clean carfax report, single owner, and a VERY good price. I'm dying here! I want to go see it noooooowwww. I couldn't tell you why, but I've wanted an Impala for the last 9 years. All I can do is cross my fingers that it doesn't sell, and it's killing me.

Bummer- she took too long to get out of the house. We'll never make it before they close. Now I hope I can get off work early tomorrow. Cross your fingers and toes for me! This is the first car that I've REALLY REALLY wanted in a long time (that I can afford).

I'll never understand how some people find shopping to be "fun." lol I have a Bissel 10 amp vacuum that is marketed as being great for pet hair and I think it cost $180 but I'm not sure. Anyhow, that vacuum is AWESOME. Totally kicks the pants off any other vacuum I've tried or had. It's a bagless upright, but the canister part of it detaches from the body and can be used independently. I forgot to bring it on one of the trips with the trailer, so it got squished into the back of the Charger on my last trip down. I was NOT going to leave that thing behind. lol

I apparently suck at picking out cameras because mine sucks so I'm no help there, but I've heard nothing but good things about Chevy Impalas. I almost bought an Impala SS instead of my Charger, but I just had to have the retro looking rear-wheel drive muscle car with a Hemi. heh heh

I know the vacuum that you're talking about Paul! That's my second choice. The reviews were a bit better on the other one.

I normally hate shopping. Getting some things that we really need (ok, we don't REALLY need a fancy-pants camera) is awesome.

We've gone from wondering how we were going to eat the next few days to having a decent amount of breathing room, and I'm LOVING it. For once, we don't live check to check, and I hardly know what to do with myself. Trust me, it wouldn't be hard at all to screw it up, but this gets a huge WHEWWWWW from me.

I really hope I get that car!!!!

So, hopefully you're out buying an Impala right now, Shanti?
We'll probably have to wait for them to get the camera before we can see it though.:main_laugh:

Doesn't just plain out suck when you have the money to buy something and it gets gone fast, if you were broke it would sit there forever.

Hope you find something else you like soon1

I'm so mad! I found another Impala, in my price range, the whole sha-bang. I called to make sure it was there, and they said it was. So we drove there in the worst holiday traffic EVER, sat there for 15 minutes, only for them to come back and say it sold yesterday. ARRRGGGGGGG! I was so excited when they told me they had it!

That sucks, Shanti. Did you leave your number with them and let them know that you're looking for an Impala? Sometimes dealers trade cars back and forth to even out their inventory and obtain something in particular that a potential customer is looking for. It might be worth a shot since Impalas seem to be hard to find up yonder.

Nah...we were too ticked.

I'm not sure what we're going to do now. I don't think an Impala is in my near future. I need to buy a car by the end of the weekend. I'm way tired of cramming myself into the back of a camero.

Pontiac Grand Prix are pretty comparable to an Impala. Dodge Avengers ain't bad either. Both look pretty spiff in my opinion.

Oh, we love the Dodge Avengers, but you can't really find one for less then 15K. Money is good right now, but it's not that good. I'm looking for something that I don't have to finance much on, so we stay in the black without having to worry about it.

So sorry about the cars being sold! Car salesman are so shady, they'll tell you anything just to get you in. I'm not sure what price range your looking in but I know that you can find '06 Chevy HHR's for 10K-12K with under 30K miles. Chevy extended their warranties in '07 to 100K miles so everyone traded their '06's in for a new one (like we're about to do). They get 25 MPG in traffic and more on the highway. Just thought I'd throw it in there.
Here's a quick google search I did-
HHRs near Chicago

Good luck in whatever you find though!
