Should I crush oatmeal?

Hello everyone. I've read forums about how to raise my own mealworms. I'm gonna be using old fashioned oatmeal (rolled oats) and a little ground up dog food. Some forums say used crushed oatmeal and others say its ok to use the rolled oats. So do I have to crush it or can I just pour the rolled oats in? Thanks in advance.

What you want to do is get a chopper or dicer of some sort and get that oatmeal to a fine granules. This will allow you to sift through the oatmeal and mealworms better. It you just go with the oatmeal without chopping it up then you will have a heck of a time seperating the mealies from the oats. Believe me spending a few mintues grinding it up will be alot better then spending alot of time seperating the mealings from the oats without grinding em.

I understand and that makes sense to me. For people who just go with the rolled oats, can the mealies even eat them that way or do they need to be chopped up before they can eat them?

i use rolled oats and they seem to be able to eat it fine. i have never crushed anything up for my mealies before and they have done fine. however, i would agree with grinding them up just for your convenience.

Grinding is for your conveniance but it will take you about 2 or 3 times as long to harvest your mealies out of the oats if you don't. They will eat it either way if grinded or not. Its up to you but once you grind the oats up you will not go back. Sifting is the fastest way to get your mealies out of the oats and grinding it up will help alot.

If you have one or two geckos to feed then it really doesn't matter. If you feed several then you will want to grind em up, theres not other way

Well I only have 1 and for now that's all I plan on having, but I agree grinding the oats will make it much easier and I think that's what ill do. Thanks again.
