Should I get an adult or baby?

Looking to get my first leopard gecko. I like the idea of a baby so I can watch it grow and be with it from the start, but I hear some people recommend adults.

we now have one of each and I love both of them. The babies tend to me a bit more jumpy and hard to handle, although mine is exceptionally calm because she was cared for very well and handled every day by her breeders (Empire Reptiles). I was nervous about getting a baby so our first was a 1yr old. But both are great.

It's definitely fun watching them grow up, watch their color/patterns change, and watch them eat like horses during the first year. Adults on the other hand are calmer, more docile, and they tolerate handling better. Both are fun, and let's face it, you know you'll get a second gecko soon enough so might as well go one young one adult ;)

Hahah... can't argue with that logic! lol

I like babies because there is a certain amount of bonding that occurs through the baby stage....

But that bond can be just as strong with an adult.. I have a male snowglo enigma that I bought in a group that I had planned to resell... But, there was just magic between us! I don't want to let him go. LOL he has turned into a side project JUST because I love him so. One of his seems to have his same personality~! I imagine what it would be like if we had started out as a baby and an owner?

SO.... I say.. get one of each. :)

both have their advantages and disadvantages. They are flight risks more when they are younger and if your going for a certain sex then that is hard to tell with a baby but it is fun to see them grow up and change on the other hand adults can be calmer ( I have had a couple adults that were not so docile) and you know whether you have a male or female. Adults are also a little more pricey sometimes. Depending on the morph. Good luck with your new gecko whichever you decide :)

Virgin adults usually cost more than juveniles. But if you buy a proven breeder gecko that one of the breeders need to unload, they usually are very cheap.

What's the price difference between adult and juvenile? I'm planning on getting a adult

the price will depend on lots of factors
age (baby, juvi, adult)
Size
Sex
Morph
Breeder
quality
etc

If you look around, there is a Leo available for every budget. I've seen them for as little as $20 (or even free in the adoption section) or as much as $2500

I bought an Adult SHTCT first and she is great. She chows down on food, whenever I walk in the reptile room she comes running out of her hide. Loves to be handled, and walks back and forth on my shoulders while I play solitaire and minesweeper. I have forgot about her being on my shoulders before and go downstairs. My wife loses it when this happens. She loves to check them out in there cages, but once they are out she freaks. She will learn because we went from 1 dog, to 1 dog and 3 lizards in a month.

That said, I have 2 baby geckos, a snow raptor and a patternless. And they arent half as calm and I find they are finicky when it comes to eating. One only wants this the other wont eat this. Hunger strikes, watery stool. For a first timer, my recommendation is a well started Juvie or Adult. Just to bypass all of the young stubborn, stressed baby stuff. Its not my cup of tea, but for others, there is enjoyment in raising babies.

Hope this helps.

It depends on how much you want to hold them. If you want to hold them a lot, I'd go with an adult. Though, watching them grow is so much fun :) But, like everyone else has said, they need a proper setup.

There are so many factors to this question, that it's unanswerable. In general, adults are more money. What morph? Who are you buying it from? Male? Female? Proven breeder?

Edit: Looks like everyone beat me to this! I guess I should read the whole post before answering. :0
