Should I or shouldn't I?

The pet store I go to normally for my feeder rats is actually a pretty good place. There is a tokay gecko that has been there for a week. I don't know the story on it but I can see that it is skinny looking. I am strongly debating on taking it because I feel that it needs a little more one on one care than the store can give it. What are your opinions on this? I know that they are a display pets only because of their temperments. I don't know. Just thinking of it.

Thanks. Is there anyone here who have had/has tokays and can give me some opinions on them? I have a 40 gallon breeder tank that I can use for it. Just need to know how often you do a complete tank breakdown and what's best for feeding them. Thanks

I have rescued a few tokays in the same boat as the one your thinking about getting.. I have one right now that was in bad shape but I have him eating and gaining weight, still skinny but getting fatter. I am sure whatever you do will be better then the dumb pet store so I say go for it..

Well unfortunately I went to the store today and inquired about it. Found out that he had been sold to someone. Hopefully it will have a good home. Has me thinking now of getting one. Wonder what my chances are of finding a baby one for under $50 at Hamburg this Sat? I have too many laid back pets, need something with a little more fire. LOL

You would be able to pick one up for under $20. I see them for aroudn $15. Make sure you get some panacur though so you can deworm.

I really wouldn't suggest treatment without at least a fecal examination. Shotgun "medical" therapy is a dangerous proposition. So is medicating outside recommended parameters...

If you are going the WC route with tokays, expect some parasitic load to be present, however don't assume to know the nature of the infection or the most affective treatment without "data". Treating reptiles "therapeutically" often ends up with a stressed out animal that becomes overcome with the load of parasites they've been carrying...

Gekko gecko aren't terribly hard to find CB. (I can think of 6 people off the top of my head that produce them) In my opinion, the effort you'll likely exert "bettering" a tokay in bad shape, would likely exceed that of a well-done/healthy captive bred animal.
