Shouldn't be breeding!

#1 All to often I see animals being mislabeled and misrepresented. If you can't bother to learn the morph why are you breeding them. What is with that?

#2 Bad record keeping. I was at a show a couple of years back and another breeder wanted to do a trade. So I said ok when things slow up some I'll go over to your table and see what you have. Anyway when I got over there and started asking some questions about his stuff he goes "oh I don't really know, I just tossed a bunch of stuff together". REALLY? C'mon you have no record of what you bred?

I might be over reacting but geez, that stuff irritates me to no end.

We are with you! Nothing bothers me more when someone asks "what are these" and they're hatchlings that they bred. lol. It really frustrates me... Also- people who mislable geckos bc they are ignorant or too lazy to learn the morphs... like 66% het line-bred snow...

I don't breed right now for that very reason. I don't know a whole lot about morphs and if I did breed some geckos I'd have no idea what the hatchlings were. In all honesty, I don't know what the percentages mean, I maybe know what line-bred means, and het stands for... um...

Basically, if you're me, don't call yourself a breeder. I may breed eventually, in which case I would study for a VERY long time beforehand so I know what I'm doing. By the way, can anyone recommend any good books on morphology or leo breeding/genetics to study?

There is an epidemic of that going around. Sure i'm new to breeding. I havn't been around near as long as many people that breed geckos. But you can ask Nigel, Brittney and Marcia that for being in the hobby a short period of time i'm not irresponsible.

I see alot of people doing really stupid things like you describe. Those people that do that remind me every time i get impatient stupidity is out there and puts me back into place.

Small goals is the way i have everything set up. Once i reach one goal another is there to take it's place. Looking at the big picture will drive you insane.

I agree, but only when in a ''business'' situation... Some people do just breed for fun and you can't necessarily blame them for not knowing what morphs they have...

Well the part about knowing what you did doesn't really refer to breeders or hobbyist its just my personal situation. If someone wants to trade or something but can't tell you what is what then how do you know what you're getting? I don't have a problem with people breeding for fun and not keeping track of what's what but this guy had like 200 geckos on his table and didn't know which were het Raptor, and which were het Bell and so on.

that sounds as if that is one person that shouldn't be selling except for pets only. how can you put a price tag on something if you have no clue on what it is.
