I own a leopard gecko, who up until a month ago was absolutely fine. I'm at a loss at what might be wrong. He won't open his eyes while in his cage but is fine when taken outside. And recently has been pooping green (last few days) . His appetite seems to be smaller too. I haven't changed anything about his cage or diet..... Help?!

Well you can tell by his tale is is very under weight. his tail is very very skinny. You best bet would be to take him to a vet. What is your cage set up and your supplementing like?

I'm running a uv and a basking bulb. Reptile carpet, foliage, a good-sized water dish and an alligator head hide. He didn't start to get like this til the weather got real warm. When I have him outside and on me he's happy as a clam, but the minute I put him back in the tank I seem to have a sickly lizard. I just don't understand. I haven't changed anything about his habitat or his food on over a year. I was told his 5 last year, (making him 6 now) but that's still really young for a gecko. There are no local vets that can treat him if he does have a parasite. The closest one is 2 1/2 hrs away and I have no transportation there.

First of all. Take out the UV and basking bulb. Get a UTH (under tank heater). Leopard geckos don't bask or use UV. If you want any light for it at all. get a soft lamp light with no heat to it. Two hides would be best for him so maybe look into getting another. Make sure you a dusting with Calci, D3, and Multi vit. Only have him outside during the hours around 5pm-5am which would be the least stressful time to have them out. Please.. Please do research on your leopard gecko. if you would have known these things before you got your little one you could have saved money by not geting UV and Basking bulbs which coast a lot more than the UTH.

So took my gecko to be looked at. And it turns out its just a mouth infection. Was told how to treat and not to change my lizards habitat.

Well, I have three leopard geckos and know from experience how geckos should be. Looking from your pictures and your set up I would still change the set up and make sure to feed your leopard gecko a bit more because the tail is really really skinny. If you would like to listen to a Vet who most likely has never owned a leopard gecko before, go ahead. I just hope your little leo lives it's full 15-20 years like it should.

Did he make a comment on the size of your geckos tail? And any breeder would say to use a UTH. But it's whatever you animal I guess. You can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

I did. I asked him what to do. How to help her. He said if her tank hasn't been a problem for 6 years then he doubt uth would help considering her tank stays at 85-95degrees at any given time. He noticed an infection on the ridge of her mouth. Told me how to treat it. But thank you for your words of advice if I have any further problems I may try the uth.

I definitely agree 100% about the tail. It's very, very skinny.. Healthy leopard gecko's tails are big, fat and plump. I would expect a breeder to point that out immediately! Just trying to help but I would strongly suggest feeding a bit more. It's also possible he has had the infection for awhile and it was making it difficult for him to eat properly.
