Sick Leo :(

So I believe my leo has mouth rot... and not just starting... I feel awful and I'm sure she does to. She can only eat chicken baby food at the moment and currently i'm treating her at my house since my mom would rather not spend as much money on her unless absolutely necessary. So if anyone can help by suggesting what I should do I would be very thankful!!!

About your leo:
- Female
- Over 4 years old
- I've owned her for four years
- I got her at a school science store (oh ya, guess what, the other two leos that were there died within 2 months) in 5th grade

A) Health/History
- i usually cannot handle her much, she's extremely aggressive and likes to bite. Recently I've been handling her everyday to feed her and transfer her from cage to cage
- She acts the same as usually, sleeps in the morning, starts walking around her cage at 12. Going from her water bowl to the heating pad.
- Never had any health problems till now
B) Fecals
- Look the same as usual (can't describe since we just cleaned her cage but it's normal)
- Not sure
C) Problem
- The area around her eye is swollen, so her eyelid is swollen shut and she has what looks like mouth rot on the right side. It sticks out slightly. i noticed her eye was closed and she wouldn't open it at the beginning of the month. Me and my dad thought that she might have hit it on her log while shedding or on the side of her work bowl while hunting

Housing:
A) Enclosure
- About 2 1/2 feet long, a little over 1ft wide and 1 ft deep
- glass tank
- Some sort of bark, I believe fir
- one hide, its a synthetic half log with a hole on the side so she can crawl in/out, and then the opposite ends have a hole.
B) Heating
- Heating pad on the right side of the cage
- Not sure, never realized the importance of this until recently (I know i'm awful)
- Don't have one besides using the back and front of my hand to see if it's hot or not
- nothing.... My mom won't let me by a thermometer....
- Besides natural light from the window (Which provides a little heat), no
C) Cage mates
- none

Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- i feed her superworms every 3-4 days when she's healthy. Currently I'm feeding her Gerber baby food
- i use a spoon so she can lap up the food
B) Supplements (describe how often)
- Don't use any.... Once again I didn't know they needed that...
- Nothing, the container the worms come in is filled with some sort of saw dusty stuff and something else...

Please help!!!!!!!!!
Currently I let her crawl around in warm water for thirty minutes (a vet over the phone told me to do this) and use a cotton swab to gently aply some hydrogen peroxide to the mouth rot

  • You need to take out the bark right away! Switch to paper towels as soon as possible.
  • You need a thermostat.
  • You must get two digital thermometers with probes or a temp. gun.
  • You need calcium with D3, calcium without D3, and a multivitamin! Dust with calcium with D3 and a multivitamin once a week. Have a dish of calcium without D3 in the enclosure at all times.
  • You need to gutload the insects... if you don't, the insects are nothing but a empty shell.

The gecko needs to see a vet. If you cannot manage to do that, the best thing to do is give up the gecko to someone who will.

I know you don't want to hear this, but she needs a herp vet. Show your mom these responses, that way she'll know you're not over reacting.

Also hydrogen peroxide should never be used on a wound, gecko or human. It can actually eat away at good cells and cause more tissue damage. Who ever started the rumor that it cleaned wounds makes me very angry. It's a good household cleaner. Not for skin.
