Sick leopard gecko

Ok, so i went to the vet and had all the tests done. Blood, test for impaction, calcium, ect. Even another fecal. She has a lot of bacteria in her stomach. Other than that, nothing new.

The gave me an antibiotic to administer 2 x a day. I bought overhead lamps and got the digital thermostats with suction cups as well as the infrared one. Both show different readings. I don't know how the he'll to get consistent readings on any of this stuff. It's reallyfrustrating.

Use had a hard time getting in her humid hide and I had to make it more shallow so she could get in. After $350 I feel I am just prolonging her death and I am the one that has to take care of her everyday and it's stressing me out very bad to see her so sick and getting worse. The vet says she is still strong in her front paws and seems alert but see her very weak and just not getting even close to better.

The vet says she may have crypto. 50-50 shot of survival based on how she is right now. Also said is she dies I should determine the cause because I have 4 other geckos and one may be sick(not sure but is isolated also). I told him if I had a sick gecko I would just assume it was crypto. I don't see the need to have an autopsy done on one to figure that one out. Any thoughts. I can't stand seeing her like this. I was going to give her 3 days and see if she gets better but don't know if I can stand seeing her like this anymore. I feel really bad about it.

Any advice?
Did she test for crypto? Well, she said she has a bacterial infection so that is what the antibiotics are for. You have to give the antibiotic time to work. You should start seeing a difference within a week or two if the cause is bacterial infection. Keep in mind you did not provide the suitable temperature needed to help her immune system. If you manage to get that under control in addition to the antibiotic and the carnivore care she has a chance to recover. There is no quick fix. It will take time and effort from your part. Stress can also be related. Make sure not to disturb her unnecessarily only to medicated her and feed her.

Of course she was declining due to the fact she had a bacterial infection and not being treated. Give the meds time to work. I know it can be tough but it's part of being a reptile parent. Make sure to finish all the doses of medication prescribed. A bacterial infection is common and can be successfully treated.
Give her the benefit of the doubt she deserves and most important of all focus on providing her with the proper environment.

When I got up this morning she had a black line under her lip. Almost looked like a burn. Last night she couldn't get into her hide box and I had to cut it down so she could get in. She is very weak and I decided to take her to the vet this morning and have her euthanized. She was in the humid box all night and is very weak. I hope I wasn't premature as I already feel like complete garbage but she was so weak and I saw her getting worse very quickly. The black line under her lip just tipped the scales. I couldn't see her suffer anymore.

The vet said that it could be crypto but they could't know unless she was euthanized and they did a test afterwards, mainly because I have other geckos in the house.

Also, I never said the temps were completely off. I said they were inconsistent based on the readings I was getting. The reality is that every thermometer I used was off from the other and it was hard to know for sure. It never bothered her before and I had her in the cage for a while. Plus, she wasn't eating when she was in the cage with the others and that's why I moved her. I switched to an overhead basking light and the next morning she had a black line under her lip. I basically don't know what the heck was going on, only that she was suffering and had a tail that was so thin that it was flat at the tip. Like the end of canoe oar.

:( Is she having a necropsy done? I hope so for the sake of the others. If I were you I would get them all tested. Also make sure you disinfect that cage with ammonia very well if you plan on using it.

You know what, you did what you felt was right. You shouldnt feel like garbage, it could of gone both ways. Think positive and do what you gotta do for the others now that all this happened:main_yes:. Sorry for your loss.

You did everything you could. Don't beat yourself up.
So sorry for your loss. Try not to focus on the negatives. She is in a better place and is no longer suffering. Now focus on giving your remaining Leos the best care possible and enjoy them.

Thanks to all.

I'll miss her but at least she won't suffer any longer.

I'm sorry for your loss, but maybe next time you will not wait so long to get them treated. They need to be taken right away. I think you need to do alot of research so that the others don't die too.

I initially took her to the vet almost 2 months ago and had been trying to get her better for weeks. She looked great when she first went to the vet but I knew something was wrong.

Please don't listen to her, we all know that you loved your Leo and would have done anything to keep her healthy. Good luck on any futures geckos and we hope to hear some good news i'n the future.

I never said she did not love her gecko. Holding a grudge is imature and unhealthy. All you want is t start an argument. write all u want if it makes u feel better. I will just ignore u.

I think it's because my life is so hectic and most of the time I write I am in a rush so I write exactly what comes to mind at that moment. I have to remember my facial expression cannot be seen thru my writing.
