Hey guys I need some help. I'm a leopard gecko owner and I am about to take in another. This one looks like it's in bad health. It's pretty thin and I was told that's due to it being in the care of some neglectful people. The person I am in contact with says that they were away a few months.

Nevertheless, the gecko will be well cared for here. They are giving me the tank and set up. However I will do away with most if not all of it.

I just need to know what first steps I should take. I know a thorough tank cleaning is in order as well. I suspect parasites. The nose also looks a bit more rounded than it should be.

Since it refuses to eat, how should I handle that? I've heard of several things. I just want to do what is best. More information will be posted as I receive it.

Thank you kindly

In my opinion the very first thing you need to do is get all the stick shed off then make sure you get that heat pad in and replace the substrate with something like paper towels

Could also try some different feeders if you have some on hand. From those pics the tail doesn't look all that bad, but the shed makes it look so sad :(

It might be stressed from the light since it only has one hide. Do you plan on switching to a UTH or are you going to keep the overhead light?

Have had a few stubborn/lethargic juvies that seemed to respond to a slight increase in belly heat; jump-started their appetite to turn them into little porkers.

Second the slurry and vet advice!

First things first get that shed off! Give him a lukewarm soak and get all of that stuff off, and try a slurry. Slurries increase appetite and can keep a gecko alive in tight situations.

No substrate, keep the little one on paper towels, get some hides in there, underbelly heat, and a very needed moist hide. Post updates and let us know how theyre doing
