Silly Question...

but it's been bugging me. I know most frown on breeding leos of uncompatable morphs together and creating double hets, but why? Also, for instance, if you have bred 2 different albino strains together (bell and tremper, for expample) and have double het, when the babies are bred together would you get a mix of both? Or??

If the double het babies are bred together, you will get some offspring of albino type A, some offspring of albino type B and some normal looking ones who are double hets. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it becomes very confusing as to who is what and makes it difficult to continue the lineage with clear bloodlines.

When mating the babies from a Tremper albino with a Bell albino, the expectation is

1/16 normal
2/16 het Bell albino (looks normal)
1/16 Bell albino
2/16 het Tremper albino (looks normal)
4/16 het Tremper albino het Bell albino (looks normal)
2/16 Bell albino het Tremper albino
1/16 Tremper albino
2/16 Tremper albino het Bell albino
1/16 Tremper albino Bell albino

This is probability per egg, so actual results are likely to differ more or less from expectation.

Breeding tests are needed to determine which mutants the normal-looking babies are carrying and to tell the Tremper albino Bell albinos from the Bell and Tremper albinos. This is a lot of work for little return.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a possibility of getting two diff. types of albinos, but I agree that the hets. would get confusing throughout the lineage

Yeah, I'd love the possibility of getting two different types. Extra work, but...eh. I think it would be worth it.

paulh...you said 1/16 for a Tremper Albino Bell Albino? So...visibly Bell AND Tremper?
