Yesterday is the third time I found a stupid silverfish in my gecko's tank in the past few months. I keep my room very clean, so there should definitely not be any bugs in it or in the rest of my house. Has anyone else had this problem with these bugs in with the geckos? I'm wondering where they came from and why they choose to get into my gecko's tank. Any ideas? Thanks.

I would guess your house in general has silverfish. You'd be amazed at what can live in your house without you knowing. I don't think it's so much the gecko they are attracted to. Rather, I think they fall in and can't get out.

Ugh... I know. They're wicked gross. I'm going to do a thorough cleaning of my room and see what I find. I do have guinea pigs in my room so I wonder if the silverfish come in with the hay or the shavings or something. Do you think they are any threat to the geckos themselves though? Because I think the silverfish bite or pinch.

Silverfish live everywhere they can. They can eat pretty much anything organic and some things inorganic. They are usually found in cool dark places. In the wild they live in decaying wood, leaf litter, and under rocks. They are opportunistic and can find one way or another into a house and dont translate into a dirty house. Im not sure how they get into your gecko tanks, but they are not really a problem unless they come into contact with anything toxic.

silverfish like all bugs need water. Do you have a bowl of water in the tank? They may be going in simply to get a drink, and then can't get out.

I do have water bowls in their tanks so I guess that's what the bugs are going for. I just think its weird that I've seen like three so far and I've probably only seen one other one in my whole life. But thanks for all the advice. I'll have to keep an eye on them. Maybe find the source? I just don't like them being in there with my geckos.

Silverfish are nasty little vermin and whenever we've found them it's always been in a dark area.. Cabinets, closets, etc. They do eat clothing and pretty much anything they can. I would keep them out if at all possible. What type of lid are you using? If it's a steel mesh the grate holes may be large enough for them to slip through.

I'm sure they are after the water, food, or feces..

In Florida ear wigs are everywhere.. they remind me of the things they stuck in Kirk's ear in the Wrath of Kahn..

I can't believe I just said that.. i'm such a dork!
