I'm at 22 eggs so far this season, the first will be hatching at the end of the month.

Kinda like your idea of the dividers just being one space apart and floating on top. Mine are 2 spaces and they kinda have a little roll. Looks nice any hatches yet?

PS what kinda instrument you using to write on your eggs? just a normal pen?

None hatching yet, but hopefully at the end of the month... I use a fine tip sharpie and just color code each egg according to its mother.
