I don't think there's one thing you could narrow it down to, except maybe a responsible owner.

They obviously need heat, food, and water to survive.

Ditto to the answers of a responsible keeper/owner and lots of TLC

VOTE but you only get 1 choice. I made my choice already.

The reason for my vote: I believe without proper heat/temps the others wont really matter much. You can gutload and dust all you want but, it will be all for nothing if they cant absorb the calcium and vits without proper heat and cool temps!

They are all just as important to me as well. It is like asking what is more important the heart the lungs or the brain? Yeah the brain runs it all. But what happens if you take out the heart, then the brain cannot get blood and nothing works. Same with the lungs, if there is no oxygen in the blood the heart will die, as well as the brain. You need every part of the body, or otherwise you will die. Same with leo care, you leave out one of those parts, and their heart, brain and lungs might stop working.

all of those things are very important but the owner is the most important part because they have to take care of it properly

All semantics aside, I voted for the proper heating temps because it seems to me that if that ONE thing were missing, you would have a laundry list of problems because geckos cannot even digest or shed properly without the right temps. You could take away proper gutload of insects for example, and the results wouldn't be as severe.

Almost exactly what I was thinking :main_yes:

It sure was tough to vote for just one thing, because like everyone has said, all are important.

But, what would cause the most immediate stress on a leo? I think they'd be the most stressed if I took away their UTH versus anything else. The second thing that would cause them stress would be to take away their hides. Finally, depriving them of the other things would cause long term harm.

What the Gecko Says!

As the gecko sees it! ..
..I'll answer like this : Take them all away, give them one choice. ..

WATER it is!...
( but a clean bowl is doubtful)
(anyway a story to tell) I had one to escape. Lost in the house for most of three days.
There were heated places(from items such as under the fridge(that was my first thought and where I first checked)....small tight areas as behind the cabinets for safety from two male cats, that still have their claws will hunt down meal worms I drop........

No, none of these.

She had tucked herself in the creases of the shower curtain.
Although I say it was moisture that drew her to it......it may have felt secure also............But, WATER FIRST, no doubt here. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it....... based on some supporting evidence from the gecko's opinion. But I don't suggest turning any loose to see where you will find them three days later.........It's too darn stressful.......
Take care .... HJ

I would have to agree with most and say the UTH temps. A clean water dish is important as if it isn't clean it promotes disease, however as long as there is water they will thrive. I think the least important in the correct amount of hides, as long as there is one hide in the tank the leo should be fine, it won't kill it. We like to have moist hides to aid with shedding but they are not essential for the survival of the gecko, like all the other things are.

I voted water. Let's say there are three geckos in three plastic shoeboxes. One has a UTH, one has a bowl of mealworms, and one has a bowl of water, and that's it. I would imagine the one with the bowl of water will live the longest. Or should I say, take the longest to die.
