Size for Male Gecko Breeder?

I'd like to pair a new boy I got with one of my females...but I'm not sure if he is large / old enough.

He is 9 months and 22 grams, but she is 55 grams!

I'm assuming this is too much of a discrepancy? It might really hurt his pride if he goes the aggressive route only to get a vicious ass kicking by his "mate" (happened to me once, jk jk :main_laugh:)

Anyone give me some guidance? I've got other males to get the job done, I'm just anxious to start working with this guy.

I have had 100 gram males do fine with 50 gram females, but at 22 grams I think he's too small. It's not just a question of whether he'll physically be able to "do the deed" but whether at that size he's sexually mature and also at that size he has a lot of growing to do, needs to eat and won't eat much while he's interested in breeding. I recommend waiting till he's at least 40 grams or more.

I agree that 22gm is much too small! He needs a good healthy diet in graduating increases to get him to a normal size for his age. Also, if he is new to your collection, he needs to be quarantined for a reasonable time to be sure there are no other health issues such as parasites, which could keep him from putting on size and weight.

He has been quarantined for about 30 days now... but agreed I'm trying to put as much weight on him as I can! I trust who I got him from, but your right you can never take chances with parasites and the like.

I have to agree that he is probably too small right now. Hopefully your female hasn't started to ovulate yet, and you can get him up to size.
