I have a 10 gallon glass aquarium which houses or new 3 1/2 month old Leo.Currently I am using a 75watt red infared bulb for heat but cannot get the temp above 80 degrees,So I guess I need to add a UTH.Was wondering what size and brand should I get and can I use both. Also should I place the temp probe under the rep carpet or on top?
Thanks, Bill

The temp of your room is gonna decide wether or not you need to use a bulb with the uth. For a 10gallon get a small exonterra desert or small zoo med uth.

Yeah but if the uth is too large you will not be able to provide a good heat gradient in the tank. I know my uth only covers about a third of the tank and my gradient is great.
I tried with a larger uth with a ball python before and I could not get a good temp gradient for the life of me. They are low power like 5 or 8 watts I believe. I think the medium is 12 or 16 watts.

Those ultratherm uth are cheap in price that's a good thing lol. I have heard good things about the ultratherm pads go with one of those. Just make sure it's not too big.

My UTH/heat tape only cover the warm side hiding spot and have had no problem with that. So a 1-5 gallon UTH could do if your warm hide is the right size. 1-5 gallon UTH also have less wattage to save electricity if you are concerned about that. I use the Exo-Terra UTH's because they don't seem to get that hot as Zoo-Med's seem to do.

When I first started I also used a lamp. But after the temps not getting high enough in the winter I was forced to get a UTH and it really made a difference. Less expensive, saves a TON of electricity, easier to deal with, and it never gets in your way.

Place the temp probe on top of the repti carpet, as that is where your Leo will be, not under.
