so i noticed some black skin near one of my geckos upper arms where it meets the body. i tried pulling some of this "looked like a bad shed that turned a bit black?" and pulled it off gently and the gecko now has an area on upper arm near body that has exposed flesh. it looks painful. ideas? i made sure the gecko had then had a mist of some aloe mist for lizards and the box was moist in there for it. will it heal? i'm worried and she seemed to be a bit skinnier and also labored breathing possibly from the pain? kristy:(

What you pulled off may have been a scab, perhaps?

If your gecko appears to be in pain, I'd take it to the vet ASAP. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough to try to explain everything. :( I'm sorry. I hope she gets better.

what could cause these scabs? i do have herp meds here. ssd oitment is a good one for flesh wounds and so is another i have that is a steroidal cream as well to heal wounds. I am just dumbfounded why this happened or what it could be. Is it possible i have an aggressive female in there with her as the bigger female (they are both breeding age) was checking her out and she flew half way across the tank in a panick or maybe just doesnt want to be touched because she is in pain? i am curious whether it could be a bite, a bad skin shed possibly? kristy

help

i think the best thing to do is remove her into a quarantine. I will treat the wound and give her an antibiotic. maybe the female is bullying her. both the female and male in with her are bigger and look well fed(big tails) but she looks like she has lost weight. do you think this is a good idea? kristy

Around.
I think it would be the best idea to move her alone, probably for her sanity and her body. Good luck... I hope the little girl get's better. :)
