What small species of snake make good pets?

I've been playing with the idea of getting one and I don't want to have my hands full with a giant snake like a ball python.

Well, ball pythons don't get over 4 and a half feet usually, but if you're looking for something smaller, theres cornsnakes (which get longer than ball pythons, but don't weigh as much) and Kenyan Sand Boas and such.

Really? I always picture that overgrown monster of a snake when I think of an adult ball python.. What am I thinking of?

Kenyan Sand Boas are cute. I like their stocky build. :main_yes:

You might be thinking of Burms and Retics and such. Now they get BIG!
My breeder female ball python, Maya, is almost 5 feet long and weighs 7 1/2 pounds and shes on the large end. My males are all around 3 1/2 feet and 4 pounds and my other grown female is 4 feet and 5 pounds.
They're really great snakes with fantastic personalities.

Ours get offered one to two prey items a week. They don't always take it, but they are offered.
The downfall that drives alot of folks nuts with bps is sometimes they'll go off food for no reason. Alot of ours won't eat all winter long. Luckily, in Florida, thats only a couple months, at most. :p
Usually, though, if you bump up their temps, the go back to eating with no problem.

I'd suggest a cornsnake. You have a wide variety of colors and patterns to choose from, and there is honestly not an easier snake to care for IMO. And topping out somewhere between 4 and 5 feet, they get some decent size too.
